Busted Axe

Ok, so I have an axe that was given to me. I went out and chopped down a tree because I needed to test it. It was 0* and when I chopped the tree and bucked off one piece I looked down and the brand new axe had a chip off the bottom of the edge.
I want to grind the chipped bottom corner off but I'm worried that hitting it with a grinder or a band saw might cause it to loose the temper.

Thoughts?

So I’m looking to maybe just grind it flat from the bottom and just rehandling. Make a hatchet.

Just grind it slow and keep it cool with water. You could damage the temper if you get it super hot, but as long as you're careful you'll be fine.
