Bush to improve hunting by opening up wild areas.

That's one way to give a state input into that roadless issue, but letting just the govenor decide kind of makes you nervous. Its more local and less federal power to act though.

My question is the role of the governor to usurp rule/regulations/management plans set up by the Fed Agencies? If a NEPA document shows that the impacts of an activity would be deleterious to the local resources could the governor 'veto' that decision? What about the ESA, could they over ride that also?

My biggest fear is that politicians do what is best for their re-election and not the resource. NEPA came about to keep quick/rash decisions from being made by the managing agencies and to include multiple disciplines in conjuction with public comment to make decisions. This seems to be working, albeit a bit slow, IMO. This rule apppears to supercede that and I'm not thinking it's in the best interest of the resource.

Pointer,

You're correct in your assessment, but since when did Dubya care about "multiple disciplines" or multiple use, or whats best for the resource???

Anyone with two firing brain cells should see this is just another favor to Industry in Bush's long list of catering to them...

He doesnt give a crap about wildlife or hunters, we arent a consideration at all.

Its up to the elected govenor of the state to decide if he will listen to everyone now, it seems like. Its easier to go see your govenor face to face, than the feds.

That is complete and utter nonsense. The Feds hold hearings, take comment, do studies, and then publish rules for further comment.

The Guv just writes his signature down at the least public time, and it is implemented, with no input from the public.

Buzz- NEPA is a process and it seems like GW is trying to circumvent some of that process. I hope this idea falls on it's face. Besides, we all know that the Governors have more resource training than those in upper management of the fed agencies.
