We had the best lighting show that I can remember in Boise two nights ago. Here's one shot that turned out.

Yes, great pic! Mine didn't turn out.
By the time I got my chit together it was already over the Boise front and I was trying to shoot between branches of our tree.

Yes, leave the lens open until the lighting hits. I live right by veterans cemetery and it was going right over our house. Two fires were ignited from lighting within 1/2 mile of my house. The cemetery was hit twice too. Unfortunately, I did not even think about taking pics at that point. I was in awe of the power and proximity of the storm.

I live up on the bench. Kootenai/Owyhee area and was really glad none of the big trees we have up in that area took a hit. I CRS, but wife was saying that she thought it was late 80's that we had a storm like that?

Cool Pic... The last time I was down to Tampa (Lightening center of the Universe) There was a little Flash Bang rolling thru. So...Dumb Ass me steps out to watch the Boom-Booms. A strike hits a tree about 50' from me, and I'm knocked flat on my a$$. Deaf for almost an hour ! Watch out for those storms !!!!!! They may just get ya !!
