Best fluting for bolts

Bolt fluting is mainly cosmetic and not much weight reduction at all.
Barrel fluting can drop oz quickly depending on the contour and flutes.

I’ve had several done by LRI in Rapid City and they’ve always been done correctly and fast. And way cheaper than Kampfeld.

They’ve fluted many thousands of bolts. Here is what they say about bolt fluting:

What is bolt fluting and why do it?

Bolt fluting is a cosmetic upgrade. About like a fresh set of nice alloy wheels on a car. The long-standing debate about its ability to "scrub" the raceways of foreign material is one that LRI doesn't involve itself with. Bolt fluting does offer some degree of weight reduction, although the gains are probably best described as trivial.

We have never seen any evidence that it creates a liability to the strength or durability of an action.

We treat it as a cosmetic alteration to add a little personality to your rifle. Nothing more. Although a simple cosmetic alteration to the bolt, if fluting is done "wrong" it can impair the proper function of your rifle.

So get whatever you think looks better. That’s spiral for me.

Another vote for Kampfield. Not a fan of the tooling marks left on my bolts that were done by LRI.
