I went and checked my traps today and I had the best check I have ever had. I also tried my hand at fleshing and stretching. The last picture I straightened up the skirt on it. What do you all think of it?

Start looking at as many videos as you can on youtube. That's how I started this is my second year. Get on trapperman.com this is a great site to learn. The best thing you can do is just get out and try!

Looks good. But, be careful, or you will have an entire shop full of hides and supplies.

I'm done being a road warrior for a few weeks, so I went out to get rid of some beaver on Wednesday. Landowner asked me to come quick. So, I did.

In addition to thumping his flat-tailed pest, I put out fifty rat traps along the way. In two checks I have 67 rats. Some virgin ground makes it really easy the first few days. I expect the results to go down as I get them back in line. I will be happy if I average 15 per check.

So far, only two have bite marks, which is good. By the end of the months, rats will be at peak breeding and fighting hard, so I will pull them. No sense in trapping something that is bitten full of holes.

Anyone in need of some beaver hides and carcasses? I will deliver them whole and you can separate the hide from the carcass.

In the early 1970's I made more money from my trapping and hunting than I did from my full time job.I remember taking over $500 infurs in one days take.

Hard to do that now. The prices are bad this year compared to a couple years ago. We hit the high rat prices for a couple auctions at least. Now, the rats and the prices went away. My rat traps are waiting patiently for the return of both!

Randy I am fine with having a shop full. I also believe my wife would be fine with it too. If I started bringing it into the house that's when I would get in trouble. I wish I would have started trapping when we still lived in Bozeman. It would be nice to get those kinds of numbers. jryoung that is a nice catch you have there!

Since Wednesday I'm at 78 rats, 1 mink, and 3 beaver. Caught a big beaver yesterday in a rat set with a 1.5 coil. He would have easily pulled the stake, but swam into the current and wrapped around an old fence post. Three toe nails were enough grip to hold and drown him in that current. Almost fell over to catch a 50# beaver in that set.
