We’re gonna take some from friends and their kids camping up in the Beartooths next week. Does anyone have any recommendations for a place to camp between the top of the pass and Cooke City? One of the vehicles will be a Matrix so we can’t get too crazy. Thanks

Between long & little bear lakes(just east of island lake) are multiple spots on short pull off roads. Enjoy, beautiful area.

I’m not much of a campground person in fact Lily Lake is the only established campground I’ve ever stayed in. It wasn’t too crowded, views of Pilot Index were good and I fished all day unsuccessfully for grayling - only catching trout. My wife then caught a grayling first cast.

Don’t take the left just before the lake with the Matrix!

I have pulled out a cot here a few times. 44.969189/-109.473928 Might not be good for a large group. There are also some good pullouts on Lulu Pass Trail Rd, but by that time you are almost to Cooke. Not unusual to find moose wandering around.

Thanks for the recommendations. We spent the first night up by Lily Lake but got pushed out by a bunch of cattle. Headed up Lulu Pass after that, which was beautiful and loaded with moose.
