Band Brothers Redux

I don't know nor do I care. It's like asking what Bush or Kerry did when they were 12 years old - how is that relevant and why should I care? Kerry is the one who keeps bringing up the '60s.

I do think Bush did a helluva job with Afghanistan, and that is more relevant than what happened 30 or 40 years ago. He took out Saddam, and even Kerry agrees that was a good thing and the world is better off.

It may or may not be a mistake for Kerry to point out that he was a Decorated officer in Viet Nam, in contrast to Dubya not showing up for Guard duty in Alabama. We won't know that until November.

If Dubya did a "helluva" job in Afghanistan, why haven't we caught Bin Laden? Why are we continuing to send troops and $$$$ to Iraq, and not catching the guy who attacked us????

I think ol' Dubya is the proverbial "C" student, who got a good score on early Afghanistan issues, but has now so completely dropped the ball, that he is back to a "C", coupled with a D- in Iraq, why should we re-elect him???

EG,

We aren't fighting Vietnam again. Maybe JFK's inner circle should tell him that. I think you may need to get a more complete view of what is happening on the ground in Iraq. His grade would move up to near a B. Not perfect but better then student who didn't read directions but just tried to please the teacher.

What has Kerry done to inspire you? I spent at least 4 months in a combat zone would that inspire you to have me lead this nation?

Nemont,

If you would come out in favor of breaching the 4 dams on the Lower Snake River, you would have my vote in a heartbeat. Your 4 months in a combat zone should emminently qualify you for being the leader of the US Army (Corp of Engineers) in the removal of the dams.

I do agree with the fact that Kerry & Co. are taking a risk on the Viet Nam issues. My guess is that they knew Dubya would only be able to run on the War for Oil, and to keep from looking weak on Defense, Kerry had to show he was a Vetran, and contrast that with Dubya and his "dubious" record in the Alabama Guard.

Will it work??? Tune in on the first Tuesday in November.

If I were in charge of the corps of engineers Fort Peck Lake would have more water.

Here is what I don't get. If Kerry's strategy has to include reaching back to 1968 to show he is strong on defense doesn't that sort of show he is weak on defense? Politics is almost always about what have you done for me lately.

If everyone who got a deferral or didn't want to serve in Vietnam is excluded from public service then WJC would have never been there either. So that argument seems to be a little bit to contrived for me.

Why aren't we hearing about real issues? Looming impacts of the price of oil. That is effectively a tax upon everyone who consumes petroleum producsts. What about the balooning trade deficit? Which is directly a result of oil prices. NCLB has not been fully funded because the funds are not available. Deficit spending that violates nearly every closely held conservative value I hold. Instead the dems are framing the debate around what appears to be Pres. Bush's strength. I haven't heard Kerry attack the president where he could really be hurt. Why is that? Unless he doesn't have a better plan for any of those problems. Maybe he just wants to be more sensitive.

My guess is that most people don't want to hear about the "real" issues. There is a reason the NLCB has been re-named the "No School Left Standing" act....

Dubya's domestic policies have been a disaster, his environmental policies have been a disaster, his economic policies have been a disaster. All he has to run on is his ability to scare people into thinking Iraq is going to attack us.

Look at that charade that Homeland Security pulled last week. We will be getting "warnings" off and on thru the election....

Therefore, due to the power of the incumbency, Kerry has to frequently fight on Dubya's terms. It ain't the best for our national debate, but that is the system, love it or not.

Kinda funny, I would hope the 4 dams on the Lower Snake would have LESS water... I sure hope you don't get your dams mixed up when you get elected.... :D

They do not have to fight on Bush's terms. Clinton did not - remember his "It's the economy, stupid?" campaign. The fact is, the economy is not that bad. A lot of the "core" issues for the Democrats do not play well anymore - gay marriages are opposed by most Americans, gun control is not favored by most Americans, a huge welfare state is not favored by most Americans who have finally realized who actually pays for it, and so on.

The Democrats ought to be attacking Bush where he is weakest - the deficit, for one example. The way the "peace" is being handled in Iraq, for another. Environmental concerns could be yet another. Without their usual "socialist" attitudes and programs to trumpet, they need to re-define themselves.

If Kerry wins, we are in deep sh##. The one thing I most liked about Reagan, is when he picked up the phone and talked to our enemies, he meant business. Nobody, including Russia screwed with us because they knew he would back up what he said. Kerry is a push over, and our enemies know it. He has no creditability in terms of making hard decisions. He is the kind of guy who wants to find out which way the wind is blowing before he makes any decisions. This is no way to run a country!

Hey Spotted Owl,

You might want to change your calendar, the Cold War is over, and has been since the late '80s...

Hate to tell you, but there is no listing in the phone book for the Terrorists...
