This picture was sent to me from a friend that raises elk by Delta in Colorado. This is last year's picture. Usually they have to cut the antlers on domestic elk because the bulls will sometimes kill each other when penned in. You can see the tall fence in this picture. And this guy has been doing some fighting. Look at the battle scars LOL. This one is a wild one that got into his pen and he had to call CPW for assistance to remove it. I would not mind finding it in my hunting area LOL. Not sure what the disposition was on this guy as they have to test for disease and that before releasing them. Domestic elk would be ear tagged, least on the place this guy is at.

My question is why is he so dark? Elk I have seen in the wild seem to be much lighter. Maybe what he has been feeding on before he got into the holding pen?

Looks normal to me, he's just a little damp or the exposure if the pic is off due to the clouds and sunlight. His new fall coat has not bleached in the sun yet.

I thought all bulls in Colorado were spikes or 2.5 yr old raghorns?!
