How does using a small wood stove while backpacking affect elk in the area? I am looking into buying the Seek Outside Cimarron with a stove, but I am concerned having a fire going at night will spook elk in the area. What are your experiences with campfire and elk? I know randy talk about building a fire while glassing, does that spook elk nearby?

Thanks
Bob

I wouldn't worry about it. Some of my hunting partners have mentioned not making a fire if you're camping close to elk, but if they bolted every time they smelled woodsmoke they'd die of exhaustion very quickly.

I wondered this same thing many years ago, and have come to the conclusion elk like the smoke! Haha. Seriously Im sure its coincidence, or maybe the fires I make keep me under glass a little longer on average, but I have consistently seen more elk since I started building fires while Im out. Weird I know, just my experience.

maybe partially because you are more comfortable so you stay longer?
