I wasn't able to attend this meeting tonight, but good news arrived by e-mail:
Hi all,
The Wildlife Commission just voted to approve the proposed regulations to prohibit all-terrain vehicles (ATV's) and dirt bikes on the John Martin and Queens State Wildlife Areas (SWA's). They also voted to approve several new recreation restrictions at Dan Noble SWA to protect the Gunnison Sage Grouse population on part of that property. I attended the Commission meeting here in Avon to testify in support of these important regulations.
During the Commission meeting one of the commissioners remarked that they had received around 89 written comments, mostly in support of the regulations; Commissioner Engstrom, in a failed effort to diminish the value of these comments, added that most of these had been solicited by the Audubon Society. One commissioner noted the absense of any testimony today by those opposed to the ATV/dirt bike regulations, adding that he would have expected someone would have come up here to testify against the prohibition if this was a significant issue for those who want continued ATV and dirt bike acess into these SWA's.
