I booked a plane ticket last night to visit a buddy that is stationed there. I will be in the Little Rock area Feb 21st - Feb 24th. I talked to a few outfitters and they said the best time is typically the middle of February. I have a few questions for guys that have done it before.

I hope I don't get raked over the coals on here but does anyone have any suggestions for guides that could provide us with 2 quality full day hunts? Or any guides that I should stay away from? From a quick search I've got Goose Grinders, Snow Pros, Northern Flight Outfitters and Dry Lake Hunting Services written down to research.

All we need is a field and decoys, no lodging nor food required. Any other suggestions or tips for a first time Arkansas snow goose hunter would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for any replies!

Sorry I don't have any recommendations for you. If I was gonna look for an outfitter over there I would go with one of the guys that has been at it for at least 10 years. Poor business practices weed the less than reputable guys out pretty quick.

Just called, booked solid. Thanks for the referral anyhow! Matt gave me a couple suggestions on the good guides and bad ones.

Good luck. Please post what you find out and hopefully pictures of a successful hunt. Northern Skies could probably guide you in the Dakotas during March, right?

The geese normally move into the Dakotas in mid-march to early April. I have hunted Mound City, MO many times and plan to go back mid-march. PM me and I can given you the name of the guy I use.

Was down in Arkansas this last weekend hunting snow geese. We hunted with Snow Pros. We absolutely hammered them, they got us on more birds than we knew what to do with. This was our first time ever visiting Arkansas and it's a sight to behold if your a waterfowl hunter. More mallards, snows, specks you name it than I have ever seen in 2 days of hunting. One of the best parts is that I did the entire trip for $950. Plane ticket, lodging, food, tip for the guides etc. Very reasonable IMO.

The first day was incredible, a true once in a lifetime experience. We killed 103 and 1 band. We had 7 tornados of snows that landed in our lap, literally on top of the layouts. The second day we ended up with about 50, still plenty of action to make the trek from Idaho worth it! What more could you ask for. The guides did a great job scouting during the evenings to get us on birds the next morning. We were setup in between 2 roosts of 100,000+ birds. I'd highly recommend doing the trip if it has been on your bucket list. PM me for any details if you are thinking about it! Hopefully I should have a video to add here soon.

Thanks goes out to What Map for hooking me with the guy that hooked me up with a great guide!

Very nice! I love hunting snows. I called my guy that guides in Nebraska and he is booked......solid!

Yeah we got very lucky to get to hunt a Saturday and Sunday on such short notice. The next time we do it we will be sure to try and book in October or November.

We have hunted with goose busters out of Stuttgart and are going again this coming Monday. One thing I've learned from hunting with a few outfitters is to ask time specifics about how they hunt them, such as: who sets the decoys out, how often do you change locations, etc... We booked with a group out of Jonesboro a few yrs ago, but I was disappointed. They were hunting the same field every day. The geese had their decoys pegged and we would only have a few groups work the decoys before everyone wanted to go shoot them in the fields. That's not really what I go out for. I love to watch them work the decoys. Atleast with Hoot he patterns the birds daily and moves with them. The hunters help with the decoys and blinds. Here's our first day hunting with Hoot a few years ago. I'll let you know how it goes Monday.

I like it when a plan works out. I plan to hunt with Matt or someone he recommends next spring too.
I will pm you for details when I start looking around.

I tried to get dates for the middle of the week and he is still booked up. Just crazy.

Andy I have a friend in Nebraska who is slaying snows right now, (Grand Island area)maybe next year we should join him ;)

Plus it would only cost us gas and license :hump:
