Arkansas Snow Geese

Got back from Stuttgart yesterday. We hunted with Goose Busters again. We got slammed by the winter storm that came through Monday. It was 12 degrees with a 20-25mph wind. The geese weren't moving well in the snow. Most of the geese had moved North and we didnt see many while hunting. That afternoon we saw alot moving back South. Next year, we are going to try to hunt earlier in the conservation season.

This was the second time we had hunted with this outfitter. I will not go back. On the first trip we hunted with Hoot, the owner of the business. But this trip he was really acting as a booking agent and setting us up with "his" guides. We never saw him. It wasn't horrible, but I got the impression the guide was burned out on hunting and wasnt really into it at this point. He was an hour late meeting us in the field in the morning. We werent finished setting decoys when the first birds started trying to land in the field. The first time we hunted with Hoot we set up with 50% full bodied decoys and 0% silosocks, layout blinds, and flags. This time we just laid on boads with cover up suits on and hunted over just silosocks. The birds really didnt finish well. It was alot to try to hide 10 guys in the wheat field among the decoys. They kept flaring off at 70yds. The ones we did shoot ended up around 40-45 yds. Tough shooting in that wind.

We got hung up on I40 trying to get home. It had about 3" of ice on it. We were stalled out for over 4hrs trying to get to Memphis. We finally hit an exit and wound our way through back roads to get across the Mississippi River. It was amazing, once you got 40 miles S of the interstate the roads opened up and were clear. It took 13hrs for what is usually a 7hr drive.

I had alot of fun, but it was definitely an adventure this year.

At least you guys got some shooting in Foxtrot, looks like a good time. I'm glad we went when we did, I moved our hunt up 2 weeks because people warned that the hunting can slow down a lot come March 1st in Arkansas. The guide finished a short video with a few of the flocks from our trip.

I'm glad we went, I really enjoy our trips to AR. Looking forward to next year. We lll definately move our trip up to mid February. Huge difference in the number of birds.

Nice vid. Looks like you guys had an awesome trip.

Glad you got some shooting in. I got held up last year on I-40 south of Memphis. Amazing how long that can take to clear out...

Glad u got some shooting in. I'm not sold on you having to move your date next year, there's still lots of birds here. If I had to guess the weather just had them hunkered down. If I get time later i'll post some pics of birds I took this last week. I probably saw 50,000 water fowl this last Monday.
