Made my yearly pilgrimage to the desert for the great American safari. Great time, weather was moderate, it rained on and off, the rut was happening but inconsistent day to day. Had a great opportunity on the first real day of hunting at a great coues buck, unfortunately he was fast enough to duck my arrow and escape with just a racing stripe. We spent a few days chasing coues and finally stumbled into a group of javelina, gladly reducing the population by a couple. Spent a few more day hunting deer, searching for new coues country but predominately finding more mule deer, including a few good ones. Finally on the last afternoon we relocated a good mule deer and the stalk was on. I usually won't hunt mule deer when we are down South as the quality is usually not something I'm interested in, but this one had some great mass, very unique eye appeal and was one of the bigger deer I had seen in the desert. Two hours of intense stalking to close 500 yards and some close calls with cows spooking and several sets of rogue doe eyeballs watching us and I managed to slip an arrow into a great buck. Overall a great time, great hunting partner, great scenery....
