AR/suppressor question

My wife's Christensen ca5five6 ar has a carbon barrel and a custom handguard. The barrel is larger in diameter than regular barrel options, so I think I would need their proprietary adjustable gas block if I want to control the back flow pressure without changing springs or buffer weights. I've reached out to christiensen three times and they never responded. So at this point I'm kind of done with them and have no desire to give them more of my money.

My question to you guys is how do I go about determining which buffer weight or spring to go with, and which is preferred weight or spring? Or is it both? Thx Pete

P.s. 16inch barrel. Getting a nomad ti xc. Shooting mostly hand loads.

Take a caliper and measure the barrel where the gas block is. You may be able to find one from another company that fits if CA is being a PITA to get in touch with.

Edit: also, you may know this but most AR barrels are larger diameter at the gas block so you might find out that it is standard .750 in which case there are a plethora of options.

High likelihood she is going to get gassed out even if you put an adjustable gas block on there. You're better off looking at one of the flow-through designs like the HuxWrx for semis, especially for a direct impingement design like an AR.

By "gassed out" you mean he likely won't be able to turn the gas down enough?

I agree I have run a suppressed Ar for enough rounds to know it's not for me.
I had a suprelative arms adjustable gas block getting perfect brass throw and was still getting too much gas out of the chamber during cycling. The Ar would get very dirty and need cleaning each use.
I think the solution is to get a barrel with the gas block drilled +1" or +2" farther down the barrel to increase dwell time.

The low backpressure cans like Huxwrx Flow or SilencerCo Velos LBP are supposed to make quite a bit of difference. I’ve not shot either yet but will likely end up with one on my CZ Bren 2.

I haven't had the opportunity to either but I believe it should improve the situation.

It looks like CA sells a Superlative made, CA branded AGB. I had good success with an adjustable gas key on one rifle, and i have old school Gemtech adjustable bolt carriers in a couple suppressed 5.56s, the new multiple position ones are really nice. A heavier buffer could also be a good thing to use as part of your solution.

A ton of people are way into low backpressure cans, but that doesn't help much if you're trying to use what you already have. Personally, I prefer to tune the gun to run with the lowest amount of gas that it can reliably run with, plus just a little for a safety margin, and run the can that I want to run, not just what has low backpressure. Low BP cans will usually be louder everywhere except to the shooter, where as a tuned gun will sound better everywhere.
