Anyone still carry hatchets

I carry a gransfors bruks small forest axe, light but with a longer handle when you really need to do some damage!

Wife got me the little 9-inch Gerber Myth a few years back and now I always keep it in my buttpack. Useful in a survival situation but I usually use mine for field dressing. As someone earlier noted, it's especially handy for splitting an elk pelvis. Was also pretty nice for doing a black bear's "wrists" high up so the taxidermist could have the paws intact.

I just inherited an old Estwing from my Mother-in-law. We were helping her pack to move closer to use and she picked it up from next to the wood stove and said "do you want this? I don't think I'll use it anymore". I was quite happy. It fits nicely in the cargo cubby in my sequoia along with the cam straps and tow chain. Next camping trip I'll get it sharpened up.

Hello, while batoning with a fixed sharp edge might be a trend, now and then you're basically better presented with an axe. In the direction of that end, I recently got a Poshland A-0019 Damascus Steel Axe 14-inch Hatchet. This spending model has scored basic praise from a few unmistakable outdoorsmen, including YouTube specialist Cedric and Ada Outdoors. Some will be irritated by this, yet I'm willing to live with it on a financial plan-minded device. In addition, the cutting edge has a low-contact coating for safety and durability.

If a first post was a Nascar jacket, you'd be Jeff Gordon.

I've never carried a hatchet while hunting although I have lamented that choice on several occasions. I purchased one last summer at a garage sale for $1 (I believe it is an old Husqvarna) that I plan on sharpening and molding a kydex sheath for the express purpose of packing with me on future trips.

Just a heads up. If you are interested in an ax or hatchet, antique stores are a great place to pick up good quality for cheap. One old guy up the river from me has dozens of them, in good condition, for under $20 each, brand names too.

Definitely carry one car camping, but for hunting the weight to efficacy ratio doesn't make sense.

I carry a Wetterlings Swedish Forest axe. I personally hate hatchets because it's tough to get real work done so the extra weight of a small axe is worth it.
