Just looking into a 'bou hunt and came across a little place called Adak Island has anyone else heard of it

Its waaaaay out in the Aluetians. Its very expensive and somewhat dangerous to get to (because the wind blows at 100mph alot), there are no facilities to speak of, and the caribou (which were introduced for food stock) are not impressive or so I'm told.

If you want to hunt Caribou in Alaska there are far better, more accessible areas than Adak

There certainly are easier places to get a Bou in Alaska, but they have sure been getting some dandies on Adak.
If you don't mind spending the cash, it might be your best bet for a big one.
You might try to draw the Fox river or Killey out of Kenai also.

I agree. there are some dandies on Adak. I seen some in my wifes shop and I couldnt believe it, but logistically, unless your a millionaire, its way out of reach for most people right now to spend on a caribou only hunt.

Supposidly there are a few outfitters/guides trying to set something up to hunt Adak thats cost effective but nothing really right now. I know one right now but its still all tentitive but if I hear its a real deal I'll post it.

I heard the same thing. If you are looking for a monster, Adak is the place to go. Unfortunately I am a poor gov't worker.

I've got friends going to Adak next year they are using frequent flyer miles to offset the $1600.00 ticket. With planning I think this is a very realistic trip for a lot of people.

Yeah I am a poor Gov worker also, so the finanances are definatley an issue. I do know that Alaska Airlines flies in there twice a week.

Dude! forget Adak and go where the caribou out number the people. NW Alaska has the largest caribou (600,000+) in the world! Fly Alaska Air to Kotzebue and charter a bush pilot for about $700 and do a float hunt down the Noatak river. Try www.northwestalaska.com and have walt set you up.

I sure hope there are more than 316 'bou on Adak. ;) :D

Actually a couple of us are looking for a caribou hunt in '07. I will check out the link you provided.

Adak does have monster bou on it.Only thing is since they where introduced to the Island unfortunetly you can never put one in the record books.
And it just so happens a male nurse here where my wife works came back a couple of months back from there.
I think they harvested 5 or 7 caribou, and I bought one beautiful white mane'd cape for my bull.
What I heard was to cut on cost he has a friend that has a friend there and they flew out there and utilized his boat and drove along the shore lines to cut down on the hiking as there are no roads to speak of and you must walk out to the animals which are far from the village due to hunting pressure from locals.
And like everyone said its Exxxxxxxxxxpensive to head that far out.I'll see if I cant find the picture of the big bull he brought into the taxidermy shop and post it later. Daniel

dad-gum........I deleted that pic off the digi cam.All I have was a picture of the caribous who's cape I bought (and hes just a meat bull).Sorry, but I thought I had it.Daniel
