It isn't one of my favorite things to do, but it does mean that hunting season is getting closer! Luckily, I have a log truck driver for a father-in-law that gets me all of the reject timber or the "cutoffs" from railroad tie manufacture. There aren't many things that burn better than seasoned white oak. There are some of red oak and hard maple in the pile too, as well as a few dead pines I cut. I am going to get some hickory this week. I also have a big ash and beech tree to cut up that fell in recent storms. Everyone is saying it is going to be a bad one around here again - hopefully I will have enough to not have to cut in the winter.

Can you ship me about 3 cords to Montana? The oak, red elm, and hickory make great firewood. Im going to start cutting next week early in the mornings on FS and some on the neighbors property. I enjoy cutting firewood and usually sell several cords each winter for spare money. I finally have a 3 point log splitter so that should help my back.

Heading out tomorrow afternoon to cut another truck load. Usually get four cords each year.

This is som from the last 3days should put me around 3years worth of burning now. I would say I have close to 10-12 cords

Nice! That's one heck of a wood pile. I burn wood during the winter even though I live in southern Nevada. I do need to cut some wood but it's really hard to think about that when it's still 105+ degrees out here.

I got creative stacking mine a couple years back and built a Holz Hausen. Supposed to help cure wood faster. Not sure it made any difference but it looked cool. Sorry blocking it with fish.....that is the only picture I could find.

The arrow in the top is on the top of the center pole. The middle is on end to create an updraft. Makes stacking wood a little more fun....

Nice! I am going to add a overhang to the building you can see in the background of the picture to keep mine covered eventually. I'd like to be able to cut 2-3 years worth. I have burnt a lot of wood the last two winters, but they have been pretty bad. Joe that is a cool way to stack wood, never heard of it before but I'm going to look it up! BTW, those fish are awesome too!
