Life is good.

It amazes me that Ca has the strictest pollution standards in the country and they have the worst track record, I wonder if there is some thing else to their standards than what you can see on the surface..

Hi Ithaca, I live in Fresno, #2
It's in the middel of the San Joaquin valley, closed on three sides. SierraNevada Mt.s to the east, coast range to the west and south. San Francisco & Sacramento to the north provide most of the smog and it gets blown south by coastal winds that keep San Francisco fairly clean. It sucks, in the summer you can't even see the mountains thirty miles east.
Bakersfield, #3, is 100 miles south of Fresno, they get all of our left over smog.

Good ol' California.

I'm glad my part of the state isn't up there, that's just one of the reasons I'm glad to live in the mountains.

I lived in Los Angeles for nearly 36 years. Moved to S.W. Idaho, almost six years ago.

I still don't trust air I don't have to strain through my teeth.

L.W.

hard to buy it that phx. and maricopa county arn`t on that list! the dust and whatever that black crap is[smog] is all over the valley.

It's telling that a place that is ruled by extreme liberals for who knows how long, has the worst air quality anywhere. I saw an idiot on the news the other day blaming it all on Bush. Maybe he should lay a little blame on the local leadership.

I figured it had more to do with 30 million people living up against a large mountain range to the east. Let's face it, put 30 million Ithaca's in one state you'll still have a lot of polution, with each one pointing the finger at the other 29,999,999 people, and of course, if a republican is in the white house, blame him too!

Paul

Paul, You may be on to something with that... Smog is what you get when you stick 30 million people in an area that's about right for 1 million people. It's like stuffing 5 ounds of shit in a 2 pound bag, raised to a power of 12.

The air quality is actually a whole lot better than it was in the 60's. Back then, I would get a sore throat just from walking or riding my bike to school.

Yep, stuff millions of people into the basins and valleys and give them all cars, buses, lawnmowers, leaf blowers, gas-powered scooters and skateboards, motorcycles and a some industrial sites.

I'm glad I live on the coast, where the breezes usually blow all the crap into the valleys and up against the mountains.
