Another blizzard is upon us so a bored squirrel ventures out onto the street... what could go wrong?
I noticed some postings on here inquiring about Ontario moose hunts. For what it is worth here is my experience.
35 years ago I went on one out of Hearst where I saw a total of 1 moose track (old) but the float plane ride was GREAT for a 17 year old kid... never even caught a fish, but the mice were so thick in the cabin they would get tangled in your hair at night and you had to release them, or let your father beat on your head with some firewood... he really wanted to do this for some reason.
So when my brother called and told me his lifelong buddy had backed out I was less than enthusiastic but more than happy to go on a "free hunt". I was told that no, I get to re-pay Ted his payment and also his remnant payment. this news cooled my ardor to some extent but I was very unlucky in the draws that year so agreed to go.
It was a long drive followed by a relatively short flight, followed by 2 weeks unguided in some stellar country, tempered by the fact that I had to baby sit my brother, who had never done anything but whitetails in sight of his house porch...
We had multiple boats which allowed me to ditch the whiner when it got bad so I did not have to Cain/Able him out there in the bush.
Camp was Ok, but I wished for my own stuff it would have been better.

Country was Great!!! Huge amounts of shoreline on a multi-pool lake with both an inlet river and an outlet river for canoe exploring when the brother got annoying... Portaged up river and found a stashed leaky canoe which led to another huge lake that I never did get to the end of... Mostly I stuck with the canoe while my brother "road hunted" the lake shore in a small motor boat.

The home lake had a pike every cast although they were small.

Now for the very observant amongst you, you may have noticed not a single "dead moose" picture... In this regard it was the same as my 1970's adventure. But "we" should have had a decent bull right from camp my brother had 3 opportunities at a bull and managed to not pull it off for a different reason each time.
All too soon the two weeks were up and time to drive 30 hrs home. We got there as the first leaves were shading yellow and left to bare trees so we were there for the entire "fall" of the far north!
