For the WI guys here, I want to let you know about a spot I have been seeing 2 albinos. Two weeks ago there was one in the field, and this past weekend there was 2 of them and there were there Friday on my way up, and Monday on my way home. Very public area, and most people never look around enough to see them but these guys are right off a main state HWY. If you travel the new HWY45/10 road out of Oshkosh (just over the lake Butte Des Morts bridge) they are in a field 1/2 mile NE of the Winchester (county M) exit. On my way home Monday I only saw the one and almost missed it because it was laying down right in the middle of the field and all you could see was the white head, but it was only 5:30PM. My guess is they may have fawns around so they will probably be there for a while and it might be worth a little drive in the evening if you live in that area of the state. Pretty cool to see!

I've seen two in my lifetime. Both were spotted about 6yrs apart coming out of the same state park. Way neat to see. Cool info to share.

Are albino's protected in Wisc? They aren't here. A taxidermist in my home town has shot two. Make for a pretty cool mount, even though both were button bucks.

Back around my home area in eastern ND a few years back there were a pair of bucks that were mostly white, one of which was taken by a kid with his youth tag (how cool is that for a first deer) and the other one I took (see my avatar). I knew it was a little guy and almost let him walk as I had my heart set on a big buck but realized that I would likely see another big buck in my lifetime but probably not another like this so I shot it.

Though mostly white I knew it wasn't a full albino and from what I have learned they are referred to as leucistic.

Anyway, cool thing to see schmalts and nice of you to tell others about it so they too can witness such a rare thing. Good on you.

Schmalts, nice of you to let everyone else have a chance to see those. I was fishing at Lake Waveland 3yrs ago and at about dusk my buddy and I had a buck come down to the edge and get a drink and he was a true albino. The following year a guy shot that buck and had a full body mount done on it. . we have it at the store on display. . .it is pretty cool.

Yes they are protected here so giving up the location for others to see would not change anyones chances to harvest one. I was not aware you could shoot them in the CWD zones. Are you positive on that?

I knew that some states protected them, which I find quite odd. Still very cool to see.

Bwana- I would have done the same!

There are a pocket of them North east of Spencer Wi also. Have seen an albino buck last 2 years and some piebald does. Mostly east of hwy 13 off hwy 153.

Piebald can be shot in WI, but Albino cannot. I really do not see the reasoning behind that though...

Several years ago I had small Albino buck hanging around my property in Perronville MI. I saw it numerous times while hunting the property. A good friend of mine, who was fairly new to hunting, came up from the lower peninsula for opening day of rifle season. I sat him in one of my stands and failed to tell him about the Albino. After hunting the morning, I went to pick him up at the stand and he was as excited as a young kid on Christmas morning...said "I had an Albino buck bedded next to me all morning!!!!" Of course, I replied something along the line of "you're nuts"...only telling him later that I actually knew about the Albino. That was the only season I saw the Albino though. The next year there was no sign of him.

Albino deer can be shot in Wisconsin. Last year 2 where shot near where i live. One was real nice 140 class buck. There are lots of them in small town of leland, near sauk city. But we are in cwd zone. People in Leland consider the deer to be there pets and are tring to get all law passed, so no can shoot them. If you do a google search of leland and albino deer you will find the buck. It was all over madison news this fall

the link I posted above should take you to the leland story. that is the one I was referring to.
