Advice on wilderness guide hunt, Wyoming

I have bought 2 preference points and am looking at entering the draw with my son. I have been pouring over the maps and guides book. Looking at units 53 and 90. I have also been looking at NM and noticed that for an extra $1,500 you can go on a private ranch in New Mexico. I figure if I don't draw Wyoming I can go ahead and enter the NM draw or go on a private ranch. What do you seasoned elk hunters say? I need some help to make my decision. thanks from a greenhorn.

Not sure if you are hunting archery or rifle. With only 2 points it is highly unlikely you will draw unit 53. I have the GoHunt odds calculator and you have about a 2% chance at the type 2 license in the regular draw and about a 5% chance in the special draw. It says 0% chance for the type 1 license. That does look like a fun hunt though. I might try to draw it in a few years. Good luck with your hunt!
