I live in Eagle so last night I drove up to Horsehoe bend and took Harris creek rd. I hunted a draw were the sage and the pines first meet. To me it looked really good. Thick cover with a creek bottom that ran up to the timber. but there was very little deer sign. To me the area looked great but I am from Michigan and I think way to much like a eastern hunter. I was just wondering if hunting lower in the sage is better this time of year or should I go farther up towards Placerville. I like the look of the woods up higher and will probably try up there Sunday morning. Also thats were most of the hunters were. So any tips would be appreciated. These Mulies seem to like different parts of the woods than the whitetails I am use to chasing around.

Get up to a high point early, then glass the tar out of everything. This may be a curse word to some but buy Eastman's hunting the hight country for mule deer. It will help a lot. Good luck.

It does not surpirse me that you did not have any luck, without your resident guide. I will be available next weekend.

Wolverine, Lemme tell you Unit 39's secret...... ;)

Hills are big, and there is more Deer in Unit 39 then any other Unit I bet. Problem is some of the best deerhunting is back from the road.I've hunted Towards Atlanta and that area and you really need to start hiking about 2 hours before light. I was in there like 5 years ago on an opening day of deer and started hiking about then (I knew the area though too due to a prior trip). and Stopped on the hillside 20 mins before light. There was a Train of Trucks rolling in From Boise along that dirt road. Was pretty cool to see but I wonder what they were thinking ?

Anyways, you were in a good area. But there are alot of hunters , and the deer know that. Get ahead of the hunters........

Early in the season the hunting towards Atlanta in better than the lower country. The low country will realy come alive in a few weeks when the weather gets better and the migration starts. Thats when I am going..;)
