So I drew the 312-50 tag for mule deer in the Bridger mountains this year, and after putting in 15 days of scouting this summer I have turned up a few bucks but nothing Around the quality I was hoping to find. I was just wondering if anyone had any insight they would like to share about the general population/distribution of Mulies this year? Also any advice or techniques you guys use to scout for these critters you'd be much appreciated as well! Thanks

I haven't heard good things from the last few folks who have had the tag. Probably going to take some work and luck to find a nice one. Good luck!

Don't let the wife see your post. Sounds like you've been up scouting with Bridget. Haha.

I haven't been in there in yrs, but I dont know why things would have changed. This early you should be looking from the top down into the upper parts of the basins. In the past the east side pockets seemed to hold more and better deer on average. The old burn is a good area. The green on private usually holds a few nice ones....having said the above, the biggest deer (non typ) I ever saw in that range was grazing on the furthest North ski slope at 230pm in mid Sept.... so my info may be useless

I've had the tag three times. Never fired a shot. Fun to hunt in my backyard, hoping to stumble into that rare buck that grows big, knowing every year one or two fine bucks are taken on that hunt. The drawing odds would make one think it's a great tag, but most quickly realize it is only slughtly better than most general units, with far less deer hunting pressure and lots of elk hunting pressure.

I've had 3 friends (all very legit hunters) draw that tag. 2 of them shot good mature (not amazing) bucks. One was super high in the rocks. One was way down low near the private. The 3rd guy shot a forky after several days of hunting and seeing nothing impressive.

I think Big Fin is accurate (as usual), it is a good tag but there certainly are not a bunch of monster bucks in there.

Thank you all for the insight and advice! I really appreciate it! Guess it's time to lace the boots up and keep on scouting
