I am not sure if the link worked from my IPad but two local kids started a “balloon roundup” in Ocean City Maryland and participants have picked up 2,776 in the last two summers. Most are being picked up by fisherman while offshore...

I had a real good hunt with the kids, 8! Had a triple in one patch of trees. But had to pack out a bag a dirty to try to get it all one several tries to disintegrate on me.

Yeah those ones suck as do the water logged ones, I started packing a trash back just for balloons.

Nothing ruins your sense of wilderness solitude like finding a balloon. And it seems like people who only hike on trails don't realize how many there are out there. I find several every year, often in the middle of nowhere. Whenever I complain about it, people look at me funny, like they don't believe... so, thanks.

I had a record year, found 5 balloons this summer and fall including a huge blue letter 'E' while hunting for bears. My name starts with E, thought maybe it was a good sign...no bears showed up though.

I believe sticking helium in those foil balloons has been banned up here in Canada. Only fresh air inside them and tied to a stick. Rubber floating balloons are still legal but they break down relatively quickly ... or so they say. In the coming year plastic grocery bags will also cease per Liberal govt edict. It will be an inconvenience but one I should have adapted to a long time ago.

I don't own a sled but I sure wish I did this year. I really enjoy hiking but this winter has just been f'n brutal.

On the less fun side of things, found two sections of fences cut by snowmobilers on this one quarter alone. People suck

Boy, I'd like to catch someone doing that crap. Better have enough gas to get their snow machines back to town cause their truck wouldn't be going anywhere. I sure saw a lot more abuse on block management ranches last fall when I was in Montana. Did COVID make everyone sick in the head? Hmmm. Maybe some researcher needs to explore that possibility with the state's new crop of legislators.

This is "normal" behaviour in Saskatchewan.

Fences get cut, gates left open for cattle to run loose, seeded fields are rutted by assholes, moose are shot in standing crops, etc.
