2024 deer season , tag along guided elk hunt

Friday Sept 6th went to my local cafe for breakfast with my friends , left ks at 11 am for Nebraska to meet my cousin from Ohio along I 80 at my cousin's place for dinner and night . Saturday morn left my cousin place to drop my truck off at my uncle's place due too there place being closer to the highway , we took off for Jackson hole WY and got about 10 miles down the road and his rental jeep Wagoner broke down , so my uncle brought my truck over to keep going ,in the mean time the tow truck came to tow the jeep away . We got a little over a hr away and we realize that they left there binos in the rental so we got the phone # to the tow truck driver to get em back . We got to Jackson hole around 930 pm.

Sunday morning woke up to have breakfast in the hotel there at elk country inn , we went to the airport there to pick up a rental vehicle for my cousin after that we went to Jenny lake to do a little hiking and sight seeing . In the afternoon we went up the gandole there and went up to 10,400 feet to look over the town . After that we watch some elk till it got dark .

Monday morning Sept 9th we woke up and has breakfast at McDonald's and drove a HR to look for bears and elk , cow called a couples and got some responses back . Had lunch at dairy queen , went shopping a little bit downtown . We had a early dinner at a BBQ place after that we went to look for moose and elk , watched elk till dark and saw a decent size bull there .

Tuesday morning we had breakfast at the motel left there to go look for some moose and saw some around a bridge on the highway after that we headed for the hunting lodge 4 hrs away , we got there around 2 pm dropped our stuff off at the lodge after that they shot there guns , we had salmon and something else for dinner .

Wednesday sept 11 opening day alarm goes off at 415 am I had a horrible night has far has sleeping goes , we had some coffee and banana , and some bagels for light breakfast we left in the guides jeep for the hunt . Got out there and hiking a little bit not much by this time it's getting light he cow called a little bit got a response but the wind was wrong according to him so we backed out and went back to the lodge for eggs, toast , bacon, sausage and fruit . The afternoon hunt we hiked a bit up the ridge on the opposite of the canyon where we was in the morning and right at dark we had a very small 4 point come in up the hill at us so we grabbed all of our stuff and took off for the jeep to get out of there . Went back to the lodge to have prime rib .

Thursday Sept 12 woke up at 430 to leave by 515 or 530 we hiked the same ridge up has the night before we got to glassing spot cow called for a little while got some responses , saw some cows and small bulls down the valley , they bugled for about a hour went back for some Chinese food for lunch , went back out at 415 pm and went up the same ridge but a bit higher for a better spot . A very nice 5x5 gave us about 5 seconds window at 400 yards too shoot but he wasn't fast enough to get on him . Went back for some ribs .

Friday morning it was colder around 35 degrees coffee , banana and a bagel hiked up the same ridge to the same spot and the bulls where screaming for 3 hrs straight while we tried to call em in then around 11am they shut down , went to the lodge for breakfast of eggs, bacon ,coffee and fruit . For the afternoon hunt they bugled a little bit not much saw a really nice 5x6 though he tries getting on him but wasn't fast enough at 300 yards .

Saturday morning Sept 14th is another cold morning they where very quiet has well the guide thought that was due too the full moon saw a very small bull tho went back for lunch , after that my cousin shot again too see if his gun was on and it was . For the afternoon hunt we went back to the same ridge and sat a little bit and bull bugled so the went down the ridge about 20 yrs to get eyes on him and it was another very small bull so they came back up 10 minutes later we herd another bugle so back down they went it was another small bull then by every thing was done there was 3 smaller bulls in the valley , about 20 minutes later we herd another bull bugle farther up the mountain so they saw tht It was a better bull and so back down the ridge they went again .. he got behind the gun and shot at 500 yds but has he shot the bull stepped forward and up the hill so he missed . Forget what was for dinner

Sunday Sept 16th it was a bit warmer since it was the last day of the hunt the guide changed it up and we hiked in 2 miles from the west of the place where we had been hunting got in there and herd a bull bugle so we started working out way towards him and side hilling a little has well , has well got closer we kept cow calling a little to get a better fix on him we swung around a little knob there and started working out way up a little drainage there cow calling a little again we had the wind in our favor , then all of a sudden we saw them about 100 yards away he was with a cow and a calf they started working there way down a little bit and the first shot he twitched perty bad and missed 2nd shot went right into his front shoulder and blew it all a part .

Sorry for not doing this sooner but life just got into the way it's midnight here while I'm doing this lol .. was ganna go out tonight to hunt at home here but it rained so I couldn't though, my brothers went to public tho and got a doe

Awesome, looks like a great hunt. I'm heading to the Jackson area for 3 weeks of hunting this Friday, cant wait.

Went last night to public with my smoke pole to get a doe by crossing a river with high waders but I think I got out there a bit late and it was very warm so I didn't see anything .Suppose to be warmer all week also.

Oct 2 left 30 min early from work to go sit for the first time in my saddle this yr . Got to the tree about 6pm but had a fawn bedded 40 yds away from the tree she saw me took off and blew about 40 minutes later a deer blew too the sw of me I don't know if it was the same 1 or not , saw another doe about dark didn't shoot cause I was waiting on a mature buck .

Oct 18 had a appointment at the chiropractor at 730 am right after that I left for NM got there around 315 pm , did a little scouting that evening . I didn't take many pictures this round .

Oct 19 opening day we glassed a area saw like 8 does and a forky we took a walk to see if some deer was bedded in a certain area but they wernt so backed out and tried another area and saw 2 deer along a gully so we took off to get closer but they turned out to be does , I also left my jerky in the cooler and most of it got water logged wasn't happy about that . We left early cause it was ganna rain .
