Had a day to sneak out and take a look for my last elk tag. Found a decent knot of elk an hour or so after daylight on public. Lots of them on private too.

Put a pretty nice stalk on them in the hurricane force winds, at times I really hate the wind. Got to 380 yards and there was no friggin' way I was going to even consider that shot. Backed up and went a different way got to 267 yards and was shooting full value into the wind. I don't have a wind meter, but all I can say is the wind was honking pretty damn good. Found a cow bedded with her head facing left so if I didn't hold enough wind I'd just miss rather than risk a bad shot and chasing a wounded elk around. Held about 20 inches behind the shoulder, and it almost wasn't enough. Hit her right on the point of the near shoulder and exited the base of the neck, she never even stood up. Lesson I relearned here, 250 yards in a chit Wyoming wind is probably about max for me. Continue to be impressed with the 7-08.

Excellent job in tough conditions. That had to be bitter cold with that wind. You sold me on the 7-08 and I'm glad I payed attention.

Good shootin’
Congratulations!

You're an elk hunting machine!

Based on the conversation in another thread a few days ago, that'd be 74 unless he managed to get another between then and this one. I think that makes him a black belt.

Yeah. Amazing!
