Had a couple different bucks on camera this summer that were what I consider a “shooter”. Most of them were in an area I needed a NW wind to hunt. Well we had 4 straight days of SE winds to start the season. I not so patiently waited and finally got a chance to sit my best stand and on my second sit I was rewarded with a 15 yard broad side shot as shooting light faded. Made the most of the opportunity and watched him tumble 75 yards from the shot. First velvet buck for me and I couldn’t be happier! Fresh heart and tenderloins tomorrow

Nice deer! I love the stories where patience has paid off for the hunter. I don’t have enough of it (so it seems) and your story provides more inspiration to stick to the plan as it were. So is your big game season over and if so, what do you switch to (sm game, upland, trapping?)?

Far from over! I have a ND rifle buck tag, a MT deer tag and a MT elk tag. Just getting started, but I do hunt a lot of birds in the mean time. I have a yellow lab that cries every time I leave the house in camo and don’t take her. Between her and my wife I’m not sure who was more happy that my tag got filled early haha

Congrats! I’d love to get a velvet whitetail but by Oct 1 ours have all stripped it. I certainly hope you have a few doe tags or something else good to keep you occupied a while longer! He’s a beautiful buck

I love dogs that just “know” something’s going on when you break out a certain piece of clothing or a gun case! Good luck with the rest of your season!!
