2019-2020 NM Regs

Finally got a new PC & downloaded book this morning.
Small changes in numbers of elk & deer in draw that would otherwise go unnoticed usually.
There are 3 times the elk tags & 1/2 the deer tags this year in one unit....

I been waiting for the 2018 stats to come out on go hunt. They been dragging their asses this year. This keep us I am searching elsewhere. In any event draw off and allocations this year are still as depressing as ever in the great state of NM. I don't mind the 65 license fee but it would sting less if there was so much outfitter and LO welfare going on.

With the new EPLUS rules in place I would bet you see quotas not even met in the SCR drawing in some units.

I can’t believe the approved the measure to allow .22 caliber on all big game. Seems unethical. It’s always a step forward and back w NMDGF.

Is this for real? What kind of insane unethical nonsense is going on in NM and how can this be justified?

Let me rephrase that... I like what I'm reading about the changes to antelope... Not so much on some of the other things..

Well after reading over again the only thing I like is the ability to move around and find public land, worked good for archery season... Didn't like being confined to a ranch when I drew a rifle tag... The changes sure seem to lower the odds of ever drawing again though..

I wouldn’t advocate it for elk, however a 55gr bullet at 3000fps has more momentum than a 500gr arrow at 300fps. When you look at energy and square velocity the .223Rem wins by an even wider margin. Bow hunters are expected to know their limitations. Every year thousands of deer are killed with a .223 using 55gr-65gr projectiles. Our military even uses them against dangerous game averaging 180-200lbs. There may be a million better option out there, but it’s not as bad as it sounds.

Personally I think they should be limited to use on small game & varmits.............all kinds of varmits.
But not BG.

Heads up. NM has big plans for NR beyond the newly required license. Prices suggested to go up 25% for some coveted tags in 2020.

^^^ Wow! Where did you find that?

I also just noticed that there will now be unlimited private land elk licenses in some of the units that don’t have many elk. That might make the odds of getting a decent elk in some of the easier to draw units even worse. Now they’re not only low on population and land access, but the hunting pressure will be way up. Maybe it will drive them to public...if they can survive.
