I'm always torn on these types of threads/discussions...
There is a part of me that wishes people would have a bit of self control...but then on the other hand, they have a license, and the MTFWP has green-lit the tomfu&@ery of hunting deer through Thanksgiving.
For me it has come to just letting people shoot what they want, when they want. I think Montana, unfortunately, has to sink to rock bottom with all their hunting before anything will force change. Many of us saw this coming for a longggg time and many posting on this thread didn't want to believe it, I didn't want to believe it.
The chickens have about made their way to the roost, so I say, continue to beat on the resource until even the dimmest bulb on the Christmas tree realizes there's no age structure left, very few if any deer on public, and the resource is totally in the toilet. Perhaps then, something can happen to force management changes.
Maybe, just maybe, the next generation of hunters will have it better...because frankly, if Montana continues down the current path, its over for those of us that understand the potential and what could be. Sadly, there are some pretty good examples of what happens when you limit harvest on bucks, scattered across the State and one would like to think there is a lesson there. Every buck isn't going to reach 180, but all I can say is shooting an 8.5 year old 3-point, compared to a 2.5 year old 3-point, isn't even in the same ball park.
Its sad the wasted potential Montana has given up for the sake of "opportunity".
