2016 Colorado 3rd Season Elk Hunt Photos

I just got back from 3rd season and we had average highs in the 60's and lows in the high 30's at night. I didn't see a single elk the entire trip. The area is starting to look more like a KOA campground every year since when I started going there. The other hunters I talked to said they were seeing elk up around 9500+ feet up on private land. There hasn't been a winter out there in years that has given the elk a reason to come down. Hunters started pulling out by the droves Wednesday. I didn't see any elk or deer in any of the trucks or UTV's going by the entire week I was there. The one saving grace was butchering a bunch of livestock on my buddy's little farm and coming home with a ton of pork and lamb.

A "long drag" was about 1.5 miles. Working against us was zero snow, working for us was the fact that we were up hill and I actually took the shot from the top of a13er on the continental divide. We just grabbed an antler on each side and pulled like hell for a long time. I'll add a photo to put it in perspective!

that is nuts. i would not drag an elk 1/4 mile on dry ground. congrats on a succssful hunt!.
