Had a great hunt with a couple good friends from Arizona. I made the 12 hour drive and arrived in AZ the night before opening day.

My buddies Monty and Ron had camp all set up when I arrived and got out to do a bit of glassing, but didnt see any javelina.

After a short night, we woke up and headed to the glassing spot that Monty thought looked pretty good.

Within 30 minutes of glassing I found a herd of 15 javelina. I decided to film while Ron got the first shot. There was one really good boar in the group and Ron was able to take him with a slick shot at 155 yards. After the shot, part of the group came up toward us and I was able to take one with a shot at about 60 yards. I shot the javelina with a 53 grain tsx and is the first animal I've shot with those bullets. Seemed to work OK out of the 22-250.

I always enjoy this hunt with my pals from Arizona. We are always successful with the hunt...and even manage to take our javelina. We discussed the finer points of javelina hunting well into opening day evening while hoisting a few Mr. John Daniels on ice...

Great time as always, a couple pictures.

Looks like a fun hunt. I hope I don`t sound ignorant, but do you eat those things? Looks like a pig, probably squeels like a pig (but so does Ned Beatty:D), so does it taste like a pig?

Very nice!! I need to get going and apply for those! Great way to spend some winter time!

What was only OK about the TSX? Haven't you used the 60gr Partition previously, if so how'd it and the TSX stack up?

This week's sign that the apocalypse is upon us: Buzz used a Barnes bullet. ;)

Nice job.

And the yearly total begins. Great job Buzz. Now when you say the TSX bullet worked OK, what does that mean. I shoot the same bullet in my .223 wssm. The gun just likes them the best of any I tried. Did you have to shoot the pig more than once? Did it run a distance? I've shot coyotes, and had good success with that combo. A coyote is a lot thinner skinned than a javelina

Good job, Buzz. They are fun to hunt, aren't they? ;) My son sure had a ball, and has talked about little else, since our trip to NM. Well, the hunt and "The Thing" on Interstate 10 that some "friends" of mine told him about and that we just "had to" stop and see it. You know - you see the signs for 200 miles about "The Thing."

We used a 55-gr Hornady SP in a .223 for Michael's peccary. It worked just fine, even through the shoulder. I imagine a 53 gr TSX would work just fine, too. I have never gotten the 60 gr Noslers to shoot well out of any of my rifles, .223 or .22-250. I haven't tried real hard, either, though. I am sure I could come up with a load out of my 1 in 9 Savage, but I usually just grab the .243 if a 55 gr bullet ins't enough.

Congrats on the stink pigs. I don't know why but I really want to shoot one of those things.

"There was one really good boar in the group and Ron was able to take him with a slick shot at 155 yards." So that was those get in close stalking skills you were talking about in the custom gun thread right?;)

Nice pigs! looks like fun

Nice job Buzz! I seem to run into those every time I can't hunt them and they disappear when I've got a weapon. Is it the angle or is yours quite a bit bigger than Ron's?

Great job on the stink pigs. Heck of a lot of fun to hunt and always a great time to be out in the desert.

The tsx worked all right, although the dead pig hated it more.

I only shot it once, slightly quartering away. Broke 3 ribs on the entrance side and had about a golf ball sized hole on the entrance side.

The bullet exited the middle of the off shoulder and left a pencil sized exit hole...not sure what happened there.

Dont know if the bullet failed to open or opened and shed the petals on the entrance side?

The wound channel through the body was not overly impressive, but there was what I would call decent damage to the lungs.

The javelina didnt take more than a couple stumbling steps down hill...thats it.

It worked for javelina but I'm still remaining neutral on the tsx...not really going to bash them, but havent seen enough to be convinced they're the ticket and still not having expansion problems. I'm convinced that they do have expansion issues at times...not 100% sure I didnt just witness it...

Congrats on a great hunt. That is something on my list. BTW what is a John Daniels on ice?
