Thanks Guys! Just re-ordered another Spartan. Now just deciding if the Picatinny Rail adapter would be easier to install (just drill a 2nd hole for a screw) or if I should go for the gunsmith adapter.
Howdy from West Glacier,
I'm the proud new owner of a Weatherby Mark V Hunter in 7mm rem mag. I had the Spartan Javelin mounted (see pictures) and loved it. However, the stock attachment constantly came loose/unscrewed in the field. Help me figure out a solution:
1. How can I permanently...
Thanks for the recommendations all. I picked up Idiot Proof Archery and have found it helpful. Glad to know about the online courses/schools as well - will consider those in the future.
I wanted to follow up as promised and let you all know our decision. She's going to shoot it as is (only using 3x power on scope) for this year. Beyond that, our plan would be to put the iron sights back on and keep it a classic - have our kids learn with iron sights. Then, she'll get a new...
Hey guys,
I don't have any formal training in shooting my bow other than the hour at the archery shop in Helena (Capital Sports) when I bought it. I read the "Long Range Shooting Handbook" by Cleckner and it was a game-changer for my rifle shooting. Nothing super technical, just easy to...
Thank you everyone for the thoughtful responses. Here's what's been recommended:
- Shorten Stock
- Buy New Stock
- Buy Better Scope w/ More Eye Relief
- Pic Rail with low profile rings
- Flip rear scope ring 180 degrees
More context: She has been using this rifle since she was a kid, but up...
What do you guys recommend to get this scope mounted farther back on this Remington 700? As you can see I'm maxed out with these Leupold rings. Unfortunately my wife can't zoom beyond 3x magnification without seeing the black ring in her field of view.
Love this thread. Check out the brand Reima - our 4 year old and 1 year old practically live in their "outdoor jumpsuits" all winter. They have good rainsuits/waterproof shells as well.
Also, hand warmers and toe warmers always come in handy.
Keep us posted on your hunts!
On my 5-day backcountry hunt last year I brought PACKIT GOURMET. I like the concept of combining the freeze-dried meals with something not freeze-dried....a real pita, tortillas, etc - makes it feel like you're eating normal food.
One of my favorite aspects of sleeping under a tarp is there is no false sense of security like a tent provides. I'm talking about grizz country after dark. From under a tarp it's much easier to deploy spray/41 mag/flare if needed.
I'm interested in hearing what others have to say. I had one experience climbing Chief Mountain in Glacier Park where a midday fog rolled in and visibility went to nothing. I ended up summiting and then on the hike out took the wrong drainage, and after an hour or two realized nothing looked...

"Whooshed" out of thick timber 10 minutes before shooting light ended.
My hunting partners were nice enough to help drag him out.
