Go to Alaska, enjoy the short good months up there. Then follow the migration of birds South, hunting them as they go. That was my Grandpa's dream at least which he never did, but starting in Canada. No sense in torturing yourself through an AK winter when you can leave.- Moserkr

Anyone give up hunting other species after getting your dog?
Loved hunting behind my dog when he was around. Occasionally he would go after a deer though and Id know it cause he would disappear from our bird hunt, then a minute later a big buck would crash out of the corn or brush (sodak). I live where theres more serious snow than what you get. But theres many city people who have moved up here into the mtns and they are already programmed (CA) to go for electric everything. It's funny in a sad way to watch them struggle and fail. Im not opposed to electric once the batteries...- Moserkr

Finding bear in California in the Sierras this November/December?
Acorns are the obvious big food source. Highly recommend also looking for manzanita patches that are heavy with fruit - larger patch and fruit the better. Otherwise you have the right idea. They will move around a lot looking for food but stay near it once found. Tracking in snow is a blast...- Moserkr

Wild vs planted pheasants, wow....
Hunted over some fairly wild "planted birds" in Kansas once. They raised the chicks in the field with outdoor cages, self sufficient with feed and water. Minimal human contact. I was spoiled hunting wild birds in SD all of my life. Planted birds just don't cut it. Im used to hiding the truck, closing doors quiet, and sneaking into positions to do drives - otherwise the birds flush 200 yards away. Even if you do get them cornered, better walk slow or they run circles...- Moserkr

You are underinsured at the term level being married with 3 kids in your 40s. Term through work doesnt follow you. For the small permanent policy with a cash value, save it for a rainy day if its returning a dividend. Does it do a lot for you though? No. Theres ways to stop paying and...- Moserkr

2 different buddies tagged out last Saturday. Respectable blacktails for CA. Both had good bodies on them and were tailing does. I almost got a forkie on sat too -

Thats really cool. I do not think obsidian is too common in these parts of the sierras either. Pretty crazy that the natives had to trade for it from far away and bring it here. Buddy was within 20 miles of Tahoe area at around 8000'. I have never been so lucky to find an arrowhead even.- Moserkr

Anyone have a blue book of guns that could help me value a Winchester 23
Both of our 23's are fixed choke. Having the original factory installed chokes should make it even more desirable. If I had the cash Id make you an offer, but Id ruin that collectors piece in the field.
