Reliable air transportation services in Alaska

For you folks that need an air transportation service. I'd like to recommend, Dave Hicks with N-2 Alaska, 907-616-1010. Flying out of Talkeetna Alaska. I've been using Dave for years now. Great bush pilot flying a 185 Cessna on floats.

    Custom Moose Calls

Finding the dead birch tree should be fairly easy. Cut the bark off of it and form a cone. A plastic pint whiskey bottle with the bottom cut off works several ways. As a megaphone, if you put a stick in it and scrape it against a tree or brush it makes sounds similar to a bull raking a bush. You...

    What is you "Happy Place"?

Yes north of Willow a bit. Heck I've not had the opportunity to get out to the cabin much the last couple years because of neck fusion surgeries. But do have a plan to fly out with a buddy and finish installing the water well. I will then have running potable water right from the kitchen sink...

And it's nice to be able to bring myself beautiful wife out with me. She really enjoys the solitude. Also nice and have a place...

    What is you "Happy Place"?

My happy place is at our remote cabin in the middle of nowhere Alaska. Nestled at the base of Mt Denali. I can go there for 6 weeks during moose hunting season and come back a different person. It's a place where time doesn't matter. Not very many places like this in this day n age.

    Protection in bear country

Hunting in ak bush for 45 years. I stopped carrying a sidearm 20 years ago. I have been charged by a brown/grizzly bear while at our home, back porch. Shot it with a rifle from 4'. While out at our remote cabin I generally don't carry anything. Just don't feel that the chances of being...

Please BEAR with me, 2024 is going to be full of unBEARable surprises!!!

I have had the opportunity to adventure around Princ William Sound out of Whittier and Seward a few times. My buddy had a 22' Trophy Bayliner. We would take off for 4-7 days and just head out. Go exploring. This was before cell phones. Such a beautiful place. Good luck on your journey

    Moose and game bags

Good advice on bringing a few tarps along. Keep the meat dry and clean. Some powdered citrus to mix with water to put on the meat to help keep the flies off. And some duct tape to tape the game bags closed, tightly ! The blow flies will try to get it the bags. A couple small smokey fires near...

    August Alaskan moose hunt

Still hunting can be productive for locating moose. Just move slowly and keep searching around. Finding the correct browse is important, birch willow n such. Move around the edges of the heavy brush and birch forests. Good luck n have fun

I picked up an old model 94 a while back. Just handling this rifle feels nice. It seems like you can almost feel the original owners thoughts.

    Blueberry bushes

We have a hapsap variety of blueberry bush. Over 8' around and tall. The birds will eat every berry if not protected. We have plastic mesh over them and if we don't stake the bird mesh to the ground they will climb under the mesh and eat the berries. The moose tend to prune them for us

    Public School Woes

As a dad and now a granddad. We homeschooled our kids and now my beautiful wife homeschools our grandson. While his mom works a remote job. I can say this. Our kids grew up to be successful in their older lives. They are very family orientated. Just as we were. We did a lot together as a family...
