Great story! You put in an amazing amount of effort on that hunt. While it isn't a 400" bull like the ones you see with a half dozen people surrounding it and a guiding service logo in the bottom of the picture, it is far more of a trophy the way I see it. Well done!
Love it! I don't have any truly old rifles like you do, but I'm planning on trying to fill a doe tag this year with a 1949 Marlin 336 .32 Special with a peep sight.
Congratulations on your bull! Sorry to hear about the shoulder. Hope you can get it fixed up. Next time on an outfitted hunt, let the young pups do the heavy lifting!
As far as the altitude sickness, next time talk to your doctor about some Diamox to start taking before you leave. It can...
That is awesome! 99% (maybe more than that) of hunters are not capable of doing what you did, myself included. Simply amazing.
Well done and richly deserved!
I hunt heavily pressured public land and I try to take 3.5 year or older bucks. I’ve been hunting the area for almost 30 years and have rarely seen a really mature buck, so I’m happy with nice bucks every year or two rather than holding out for the super sneaky old ones. Two years ago I was...
35 lb limbs to 50 lb limbs is a huge jump for a recurve. I hope you can shoot it well. But if 50 lbs proves too much, rest assured in the knowledge that lots of guys hunt with and capably take big game up to moose size with 40 to 45 lb recurves (Ken Beck, former long time owner of Black Widow...
Congratulations to you and your daughter! I bet you were so nervous that the buck would get away without a shot with all the time that transpired. I'm glad it worked out.😁
I killed an antelope buck in Wyoming that had been shot through the neck broadside. His trachea and esophagus were both ripped open, most likely that day or the day before from the look of it. He was essentially breathing through the gash in his neck.
As I walked up on him I was initially a...
I've had four bull tags over the years, and have taken two bulls. My biggest, a 320" 6x6 ,was 2016 in Utah. I haven't hunted elk since, but I will draw Colorado unit 49 second season this year. I don't plan on holding out for a bull bigger than my Utah bull on this hunt, but I know there are...
I quit putting in for the Kentucky elk draw for the above stated reasons. I'd love to hunt elk relatively close to home, but it sounds like it would be an exercise in futility. I'll pass.
Very nice! You gotta love using a Marlin lever gun for deer.
I have one identical to that one but in .41 mag. Aperture sight instead of a scope though.
I'll have a CO bull tag this year. If I have the money to put one of them together, a fast twist .264 Win mag with 129 gr Absolute Hammers or a 7mm STW with 140 grain Absolute Hammers. If not, my 8mm Rem Mag with 200 grain Partitions will probably get the nod. I've already chalked up one huge...
