I think we've had 5 or 6 days since May 1st that haven't been cloudy and rainy here in southcentral. Record low acreage burned across the state so far as a result. Record low acres burned in AK Probably not great conditions for Dall lamb & caribou calf survival though.
Honestly Bambistew, I agree with most of what you’ve said. I also try not to simplify things like mining=bad. In this particular case, I simply think the majority of Alaskan’s are so pro-resource development that we’ve cut ourselves a raw deal on this project. What’s stopping Amber Metals LLC...
I live in Alaska, so yeah it's my backyard. I don't really care where that happens, I simply can't support degradation of public lands for private gain. At least the Alyeska pipeline generates a PFD for residents. To the best of my knowledge, there's no such portfolio or dividend proposed by the...
BLM is soliciting public comments for a few more days on the proposed Ambler Road project which connects the Dalton Hwy to the Ambler mining district. Most of the land the proposed 200+ mile road would cross is publicly owned state or federal land. Once complete, the road would not be open to...
Looks like it's going to be a warm & dry bow season for me. I don't know if I'll be able to camp in my usual spot. Water was scarce there last year, doesn't look like conditions have improved much.
I couldn't fit my bull from Idaho in a yeti 250 last year. I needed to pick up a 150qt igloo to hold the front shoulders. Had to weigh everything to pack it out on my llamas: 459lbs not including the antlers & skull. I don't like boning out the quarters, I find the meat gets dirty and spoils...
I spent the last few years living in southern Oregon. If you make it towards Charleston, I would definitely try to get on the Betty Kay for a charter trip. It's an affordable 1/2 day trip and you'll catch your limit of rockfish and lings if you know how to fish. Up around Portland and Mt...
Looking into this for a trip this September as well. Potentially flying meat and antlers from a bull elk and mule deer from Idaho to Anchorage. The best I can come up with is flying my yeti 250 down empty via Alaska air cargo, buying a couple smaller coolers in ID to make sure I can fit both...
Maybe this should go in the fishing hole section, but I thought I'd get the attention of more Alaskans here. I recently moved to Palmer from Oregon and brought my little boat with me. It's 12ft, V hull, & has a 15hp prop driven Honda. The draft is about 10" depending on how I'm loaded. It's an...
I just moved here but this seems a bizarre. The whole point should be to communicate the regulations as effectively as possible to the users. Why would they obfuscate the unit boundaries? It doesn't make any sense.
Please post the response you get from the state regarding your public records...
Anyone have any experience transporting meat the other way? I'm moving to AK soon, but have several lower 48 hunts planned. What rules does Canada have about transporting meat from the U.S.? I'm assuming no brain or spinal tissue for CWD concerns. That's pretty standard everywhere now. I think...
Reading through the posts, it sounds like I got very lucky. #577 in line. I was finished by 9:09 (pacific time). The deer and elk tags for my unit were over 1/2 gone by the time I was able to check out with mine. This is crazy, definitely should just roll it into the draw system and make it fair...
Went 1 for 3 on my archery tags this year, but the one I filled was with a heck of a bull. Easily my personal best, and my first elk with a bow. 6x6 scores out at 315.5" I couldn't be happier with him. OTC tag in a wilderness area to boot!
Sorry, not on here very regular. I would join Go Hunt and dive into their filtering tools. It you look closely you'll figure out which states you can pick up deer and elk tags without too much difficulty. I focus on units I can draw as a 2nd choice, thus building points and hunting every year...
