I have a kimber 84L 30-06 bought used last year from a man that bought it new. It's a great gun to carry, and shoots around 1 to 1.25 MOA. It is tricky to shoot and there was a bit of a learning curve on shooting it correctly. I had a kimber hunter in 30-06 before that , couldn't get it...
So in Idaho, what’s the hunting pressure like for spring bear as compared to mule deer season? I’m guessing much less but since I don’t actually know I thought I would ask.
I’m looking hard at the salmon units and north of Boise. Really don’t need you guys to divulge your good spots, I understand having hunting spots as private as possible. I’ve learned a lot from the posts already, never calculated the challenge of other hunters using bait and hounds. Was...
Flight to Boise from Pittsburgh under 300, rental on turo around 500 and split this with my buddy. License 300, and couple in expenses. Not sure that would get me to Alaska and back especially with a couple bears.
I might be off though as I’ve not looked into Alaska.
Just spot and stalk, no bait. Backpack hunt looking at early to mid may. Flying in and renting a 4wd on turo. A Saturday to Saturday hunt and head home.
Mostly do backpack hunts in the fall, been to Idaho 3 out of the last 4 years for mulies and elk in the Salmon region . Wanted to try a different hunt a different time of year. You been watching CNN?
Planning a spring bear, spot and stock no bait. Which would you choose as better opportunity at black bear encounters? I'm not partial to either one, just looking for opinions. I'm also not looking for unit info, just opinion on which state you prefer if you've hunted there.

East of the Mississippi big fan of the Swede , but 6.5 creedmoor fits the same niche With better ammo availability. My all time favorite woods cartridge is the 358 win but that is just a personal thing.West of the Mississippi 280ai or 7 mag would be hard to beat when the ranges can run long.

I think you’re going to be happy with the 7mm. Another consideration that I think people should take seriously is shooting ability. How many new shooters should be sending shots down range at live animals at more than 300 yards? At those ranges a variety of cartridges that have significantly...
That’s some great info, where we’re hunting deer is only a short distance away so it would be a quick shift over. The odds of us tagging out are slim but you never know and it’s good to have a plan just in case. Honestly I would be more likely to chase a bear that we spotted than a...
