Rifle Shot Placement for Least Meat Loss
Totally agree. The doe in the pic was standing at exactly 97 yards, and my rifle is dead on at 100. So I took the shot with great confidence the bullet was going where the crosshair was. Anytime I'm not 100% sure I can hit the hair I'm aiming at, I'll shoot for the boiler room.- sn.outdoors

Rifle Shot Placement for Least Meat Loss
Neck shots save meat... Unless you shoot em with a cannon 🤷♂️ Despite the size of the hole, there was very little meat loss. I prefer neck shots when I'm close and have the time to place the shot accurately. Base of the head is best. This particular doe only had her neck/shoulder junction...- sn.outdoors

I can't believe I forgot to post this hunt 😬 My coues deer hunt was about as short as it could have been. Opening morning I hiked up a fairly large hillside that I thought would give me a good vantage point.... But I was very very wrong. I couldn't see nearly as well I had hoped. The wind was going to be out of a different direction on Friday morning, so my direction of attack needed to change, but the I figured I'd use the same basic plan. The weather on Wednesday was terrible. It was 35 degrees, windy, and raining. Call me a wimp or whatever you want, but I decided it wasn't a day I needed to be hunting. Lol. I slept most of the day and tried to dry my gear out fun the first two days. I did do some glassing in a flat open area...- sn.outdoors

I didn't take a ton of pics on my Oklahoma hunt because the weather was garbage the first three days. He had a lot of fat on him for a desert buck. The best part about my season being 2 hours long was being able to spend the rest of the weekend with the wife and kiddos before heading to Oklahoma for more muzzleloader deer hunting! I don't think I accurately portrayed just how excited I was to hunt this NM muzzleloader tag. The unit is not a "trophy unit" per se, but it's close to home and I'm familiar with it. More than that, I really like hunting in the "open" dune country. It's relatively easy to find deer here, but...- sn.outdoors
