I contacted Russ with Outdoors International (the booking agent we used for the hunt) and he said they are making decisions for 2025 and will be emailing all of the booked hunters this month. If I could get my 50% deposit back I would probably do so and give up on this hunt. The reports I read...
You should see what some of the other outfitters in that part of the state charge. I know one charges $13k for a 1:1 hunt for 7 days, and only 5 of those days are actually hunting days.
I paid a deposit on a transporter hunt with Unguided Alaska for caribou in September of 2025. Has anyone hunted with them this season? I understand that mid-season they changed their base from Kotzebue to Fairbanks. I’ve read a few less than encouraging trip reports on other forums regarding...
My legs ache just looking at this picture (I’m 6’4”). When I went last year I got a great deal on a business class upgrade going, and did premium economy coming home. A 16-hour flight in a seat that tight probably would have crippled me. Good luck and post updates when you can.
Congratulations! It looks like an amazing trip. I’m going after caribou out of Kotzebue next year assuming I draw the tag. It looks like you got your skulls out without cutting off an antler or splitting the skull plate. Did they put them inside the plane or strap them to the outside? We...
Congratulations on your trophies. I went last year and am trying to figure out when I can go back. There are just so many places to hunt and not enough time.
Two years ago I had an antelope tag in a unit where I often hunt elk (with minimal success) during archery season. I took my 9 year-old son along, and we tagged out on my antelope in a few hours of hunting. He wanted to “camp out” one more night, and we spent the rest of the day taking care of...
I saw this story posted on the Field and Stream website. I was amazed and saddened by the comments of nearly 50% of the hunters/sportsmen. So many said this wasn’t poaching or a crime, and only reason it was illegal was because the “government wanted its cut.” I guess they figured it’s ok to...
I like the idea of the community service, especially if it had to be served during the months of March and April. Take this guy out of commission during the peak of shed season.
Take extra cash or a credit card with a big limit. You’ll see plenty of animals that you didn’t realize you “need” until you get there. If you’re like most people, you’ll also probably start thinking about your return trip before you even get back home. Enjoy and be sure to post a trip report!
The pressure is pretty high in both units. Much of it is guys riding around all day on ATVs, or hiking ridges and stopping to bugle every 100 yards as they stand in the wide open. As others have said, there are many roads and trails, but you can get away from a lot of the pressure if you are...
If you’re going to be in steeper terrain the MSR Lightning Ascent is the way to go. They have awesome traction, especially on side hills, the binding is very secure, there are heel elevators to reduce leg fatigue on steep ascents, and you can add tails for more floatation in deep powder. If...
