Who all is heading out for the opener this year? I'll be backpacking in for a week Saturday afternoon. Good luck and avoid the grizz if you are heading out.
I drew 261 in 2008. Didn’t hunt too hard with a pregnant wife in tow. Knocked on some doors, obtained access to a little chunk, and killed a 171 net 4x5. Backed the truck up to it with the landowner, and loaded whole. Easiest hunt I’ve been on.
Being older and wiser, I would approach that tag...
Unsuccessful on sheep. Still have OR, MT, and UT sheep draws left. On a 5-year cold streak of these <3% odd tags. Oh well. Congrats to those that drew.
All depends on a multitude of factors. In my MT general archery elk area, I backpack in and set up a spike camp on a high bench above a spring for water purposes. I've killed bulls anywhere from 200 yds from spike camp to a mile from spike camp. Basically, I'm hunting once I leave the tent...
There is no need to mess with elk season as it is currently set.
Youth hunt should stay the same.
Deer season should open the same Saturday as it historically has, but close on 11/10 or thereabouts. Similar to the north side of the CMR.
Pick your weapon and pick your region for general deer...
MT general season always provides plenty of opportunity. Started building points years ago everywhere, and now sprinkling in 1 out-of-state solid hunt a year in addition to the occasional lightning strike tag.
Burned my UT pts last year on a Book Cliffs archery tag and picked up an archery elk...
I have to say the pre-hunt planning is as much fun as the actual hunt. That research led to an epic hunt in an area I found no intel on. Burning 14 points on an 11-12 point unit paid off on day 5. Public land DIY.
He was the 3rd biggest buck I saw on public for the trip, albeit 1 was for 3...
I hunted unit 1 for elk a few years ago during archery season. Could’ve killed bucks every day. Whitetails. Biggest was a 140 class. Get away from the truck and a guy could do well.
I was fortunate enough to harvest this bull a few days ago. Im off to the WY unit I burned max-1 on in a couple days, and then have a breaks rifle tag.
Best of luck to everyone.
I got into a herd of 150+ on public on 10/7, with 30+ bulls and one true 360+ monster. The elk were going crazy with their rut behavior. Bad wind and ran out of shooting light after passing on multiple 20-30 yd shots hoping for the big boy or one of the satellite 6's to come into range. That...
My brother ran into a big humpbacked grizz, 3 different times, in our spot in the Little Belts opening weekend. We had one in the same area back in '12.
Based on my CC charge, it looks like I lucked out on a random Book Cliffs bull elk tag in Utah, for the late hunt. I have 14 deer points, and plan on hitting the BC in the next couple of years on the archery hunt, but certainly wasn't expecting to pull a bull tag for another decade or more.
If...
I drew the tag a few years back. We had a fun hunt. I took this guy who netted after the drying period enough to win bragging rights from my hunting partners for biggest lope of the trip. It was 80-something. Don't remember the exact # offhand, as we only got them officially measured to...
