I ended up going with a bell and Carlson stock and Criterion 1:9 twist sporter contour barrel. It’s at the gunsmith now getting the action bedded.
Loaded up some 162 ELD-X with 55gr 4831sc to break in the barrel with. Anybody have any load suggestions?
Take it to a gun smith and have them look it over. Everything else is just speculation. They look at so many rifles that things jump out to them that the normal shooter/hunter just doesn’t have enough experience to see.
haven’t tried to many streams in that area so I can’t say. I’d bet most any stream above 7,000 feet would have em.
Honestly if I were you I’d take a look at the fishing regulations for that region and see what streams have a liberal limit on Brookies and go from there.
Looks like my dad and I drew it then. Sweet!
I’ve been a Montana resident for over 12 years and have had horrible luck drawing tags. Only had an antelope tag once before and didn’t have a chance to hunt it.
Do you have any photos? The heavy sporter is only 8 oz heavier than the sporter. I am curious how that pencils out on his rifle.
Heavy sporter Barrel: 3.5 pounds
Boyd’s Stock: 3 pounds
Action: 1 pound (approximate guess)
Scope+rings: 1 pound
Total: 8.5

Would appreciate stock suggestions that will match with this contour. Or any suggestions that you guys who have built rifles have for me as this will be my first go at...
