I can’t even imagine the draw odds in the western states where game is managed at all if this were to happen where everyone gets equal opportunity regardless of residence. You’d be waiting 30 years to draw a mediocre tag. Lol. Montana would stay the same and we’d all be competing over hunting...
2023, 2020. I see a lot of posts on hunting forums and social media from non residents referring to residents complaining about not seeing deer numbers and good bucks followed by how they did well with accompanying pictures of 20-24” muleys.
Although non residents on average probably hunt...
It would be nice to see whitetail does managed by unit as well. We’re at a fraction of what we were with them even 5 years ago over a pretty large area where I am, but you can still buy one or two each otc.
Great post @namelessrange. While I’ve noticed along with other hunters here in eastern region 6 who’ve lived here a lot longer that it’s the worst we’ve ever seen for deer and that changes are needed, you still have to get out and enjoy the time together in this awesome state and don’t have to...
It’s a great caliber. My son killed his first 4 bucks with it and it handled them well. I have a suppressed 6.5 prc now that kicks less than the 243, so that’s what the kids use now, but I still use the 243 coyote hunting a fair bit. 80 grain ttsx do a pretty nice job on deer out of it.
2021 is about the time I noticed the huge influx in NE region 6 as well. There are bma’s and state land I’ve been hunting for 16 years where I’d see 15-30+ deer each time hiking until 3-4 years ago. Average now is 1-5 deer with maybe one small buck on those same spots.
I’ve noticed more and more the last five years or so that deer are learning boundaries. Bma’s that used to hold good numbers of deer all season seem much more void of deer after a week or two of rifle and I see good numbers hanging out on private 1/2 mile or so from the boundary. This is in...
I’m sure I’m in the minority, but my 24” seekins with about a 6” Rex silentium doesn’t bother me at all to carry around. I feel like it should be too much but it feels good in my gun bearer on the pack and doesn’t feel awkward.
My brother shot about a 330 bull 2 years ago in WY opening day in an LE unit. We ran into two groups on the initial packout with just meat. Both groups couldn’t believe we didn’t pack the head out first. We said we thought we had to pack out meat. They both said guys will steal that. We hid it...
There was some talk about regional caps a page or two back. I support those for both residents and non. The actual process for doing this would be much simpler for non residents since there’s sort of a limit on overall tags issued to them. Residents would be much more challenging to figure out...
I never really used to pay much notice to NR’s out hunting. They pay good money and have every right to hunt the same areas with their tag. The last 5 years though have substantially increased to the point that it would be great to see the same number of tags for them but with regional and...
Just curious if there’s been much of any discussion about an archery only tag option where that would be your only either sex deer tag? As someone who hunts rifle and archery, I personally would feel like I had plenty of opportunity either way, but I’d guess that wouldn’t go over very well for most.
That’s great stuff! It’s pretty being there for your kids first deer. I dhot easily my biggest buck last fall, and it didn’t even compare to the excitement from watching my daughter shoot her first buck this year. Nice job!
