1st thing I did was ad a foam seal to tail gate and foil tape to all the holes in bed. helped the dust issue a lot. In 2007 an ARE canopy with color match paint cost $1050. For my 8' bed Dodge.
The last two times I needed to use my winch. I had got stuck while trying to turn around on a road that turned to a mud bog. Inserted the winch in front receiver, Hooked to a tree with my tow strap wrapped around it. Winched right out. I use a 20' 0 gauge commercial jumper cable for power, type...
Find out the stock number for the chain size for your tires. Then keep hitting the Saint Vincent De Paul thrift store or others. You will find lots of chains cheap over time. In the back of my truck I keep Light V-bar and heavy off highway. Regular chains work very well, They just wear out much...
V-bar chains are built on a lighter chain than good off highway chains. If you plan on putting much power to the ground off road then buy good off highway chains. Also Cam lock chains work well on highway but with rough use off highway they can unlock. I just run standard off highway chains with...
One the meat. High grade the cuts. Cut out all the silver skin/tendon. Do not bother with the rib meat, forearms. Etc. Just take the best meat. First one I ate was a big male I processed it like a deer or Elk. I got a lot of chewy in my burger. Next one I high graded and got a much higher...
One of the best calls to make is a Cougar whistle. Or if you are sitting on a kill and nothing is happening. Try a coyote challenge call. The cat may come to run the coyote off. Thinking it is trying to steal the kill. I spend most of my time hunting Cougar by watching deer on winter range. If...
there are some deer in that high country, but it is a weather issue. early snow pushes the muledeer out fast. they can be across hwy 97 in hours or just out of the high cascade area. BUT if you get lucky that east slope has big bucks. Very hard hunting at the best of times but very rewarding...
Out here we do not have fixed camps or plots. Camp sleeps in the shed waiting for attention. it is near time to dig it all out, pack the camp utillity trailer for the 4 months of mixed hunts. Deer, Elk/Bear, Snow geese, Chukar, Predators, Ducks, Chukars, Ducks, Chukars, Predators/Cougar. the...
i know where i'm hunting. I'm looking for another "Avid" muledeer hunter with the tag to share the hunt. It is 50miles from pavement plus. A solo hunt is fine, but this is remote country and a big hunt like this is always better shared.
there are no good units in oregon for muledeer. but if you hunt daylight to dark every day. with good knowledge of the unit you draw. there are some big bucks in every unit. the equally bad units are whitehorse, steens, beatys butte, wagontire, south juniper, owyhee, beulah, silvies, sumpter...
why would you not hunt the east slope of the cascades for a big muledeer? i have chased them around before on the tag. spent several days after one monster buck. look at your map around miller lake, cresent lake. I might do this hunt next year
