    recession?

Consumer confidence had it's biggest monthly decline since August 2021. Markets sold off today as investors worried whether tariff uncertainty could steer the economy into recession. The S&P 500’s post-election rally has been more than erased, with the index declining 2.7% to start the week and...

    January Inflation

Core CPI rose in January to 3.3%. Energy prices with 1.8% MoM rise in gasoline prices The food index increased with the greatest rise in two years. A large component of that rise was driven by a 15.2% MoM increase in egg prices. This marked the largest jump since 2015, in part due to the...

    Is the market overvalued?

For the past eight quarters, Berkshire Hathaway has been a net seller of equities, raking in $166 billion by off-loading massive amounts of stock, including longtime favorites, like Apple and Bank of America. The scale of these sales is unprecedented, as it's the first time since 2018 that...

    Tariffs and Potential Inflation

Most economic analysis I've read concluded that broad import tariffs can increase inflation. There are 2 potential reasons: 1) Most goods consumers purchase in Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, Target, Amazon, etc. are imported. Tariffs on these goods would be passed from the US importer to the...

    Cattail roosters

Had a good hunt yesterday on roosters in cattails. I think the rain overnight helped as close flushes at sunrise with the lab working the edge of cattails. I silently position myself way in front of the lab crashing through cattails. Rain and cloudy days seem to work best for us.

    Roth conversion and RMD

I am five years off from age 73 and RMD which would be high due to a large 401k. My mom died this past year at age 102 and the plan is to use the inheritance for a Roth Conversion. That would reduce my tax liability in later years when RMD kicks in and some tax free inheritance when we die...

    Flehmen Response During Rutting Seasn

A couple photos from this weekend of Flehmen response in a ram and a muley buck. When a buck or ram detects scent from a doe near seaons, he will curl his upper lip back and pass the pheromone-laden aroma through the vomeronasal organ in the roof of his mouth.

Cashing in U. S. Savings Bonds

I have paper I and EE bonds that will mature every year for the next decade. What are the pros and cons of storing them in a bank safe deposit box and cashing at a local bank versus mailing them in with a new user account at TreasuryDirect.gov? Thanks.
