Im going to disagree on the latter based on my experience, which is that moose and caribou aren't that difficult to kill... the hook that drug me to Alaska
A friend in Petersburg is a great thing to have. While the deer hunting there is very pressured, there are plenty of nearby opportunities just a quick boat ride away and there's always the fishing. Plus a nice escape from Fairbanks in the cold months.- Andouille

Miss fire.
I had a similar issue with my relatively low round count (200-250) X-bolt 30-06 which would "light strike" with Barnes TTSX 165 and 180gr factory ammo. My gunsmith extended the protrusion of the firing pin by "a few thou" and that appears to have resolved the issue. My guess is that either the... -

2024 Kodiak Blacktail hunt!
Great report, thanks for sharing. I'm heading to Kodiak late August for a goat (tag) and opportunistic deer. On the subject of boot dryers, my brother 3D printed me some fan holders from a template he found online. A slightly more "finished" solution than the wood inserts shown in this thread...- Andouille

Black Bear on POW April/May
Most guys I know go in early May on PWS, but this spring temperatures have been higher than usual, and bears are already coming out at lower elevations in the Chugach mountains and around Anchorage. Still quite a bit of snow on islands in PWS, but my guess is that it is melted out along beaches...- Andouille
