I'd focus on materials rather than brand. S90, S30, or ATS34 are hard "stainless" steels. That means they'll hold an edge better than, say 440 or 420 steel. Anyone Use a 350 Legend?
I picked up a Savage Hog Hunter a couple years ago in 350. Killed a couple of deer and a bear with it. Accuracy is great out to around 150 yards, trajectory starts dropping fast after that. -

Depends on where you want to hunt. Some states have no spring season. Alaska's bears can taste like crap in the fall if they've been eating salmon. For me I'd like to hunt both, spring in AK or MT and fall in WV or WI.- Gut Shot

.22 Pistol Recommendation
Ruger 22/45 lite is what you're looking for. I'd upgrade the trigger. I also wouldn't bother with sub-sonic ammo. High velocity rounds generally won't go super sonic in a pistol length barrel. Mine, for example, sounds like someone shooting a staple gun with standard ammo. -
Wrapping up fishing for the year
