Anyone else tired of tight groups with sandbags galore?

Anyone else tired of tight groups with sandbags galore?

I usually do my rifle/reload testing laying prone using a bipod or just a front bag. I can hold steady once I settle into a comfortable position. I try to shoot at a range beyond the standard 100yds. I do use three shot groups as most rifles will start drifting a bit when the barrels heat up. I...

    What won't you hunt?

I'd hunt everything that is legal just for the experience. Killing is a whole different story.

    Montana 2025 draws

My call came late last week. I feel at this point, my opinion, they are just going through the motions. A true tragedy, again, my opinion.

    Input on damaged rifling

It's good to see that Ruger stands behind their products and cares about their customers. There are several manufactures that sell rifles at four times the cost that could learn a thing or two from Ruger! I'm curious what the borescope will show on the new barrel's bore? Glad that Ruger took...

    Input on damaged rifling

Yup, that's one UGLY bore! I've seen similar tooling marks in various barrels over the years but the CHUNKS are a real head scratchier. I'm guessing that Ruger will make it right. I'm also amazed at the accuracy that the gun provided? Wow!

    Sold

Curious, not what you wanted or didn't work out as expected? I ask as I have been contemplating ordering this stock from Stocky but with a larger carbon barrel channel.

Ramshot "Grand", seems to be a solid powder.

Magnum vs Grand? Magnum is a great powder, I have burnt a few hundred pounds over the years. I have noticed that Grand produces consistent velocity gain, pressure, as the load is increased. I have also noticed that Grand seems to produce wide flat spots during my ladder testing, sometimes a full...

Ramshot "Grand", seems to be a solid powder.

Here you go. I have struggled with loading Magpro in the 7 WSM. I have not gotten the accuracy using Magpro but did get some decent velocity. I also noticed that it struggled with temperature variations.

Ramshot "Grand", seems to be a solid powder.

I did start load work up last summer, August, and finished late fall, November. Shot both loads last month, January, in really cold temps and both loads lost 8-12fps. With that, I would say that the RS Grand proved temp stable with these two loads. RS Grand sits right in the H1000 burn rate but...

Ramshot "Grand", seems to be a solid powder.

I've been playing around with the new RS Grand powder. Good fill rate with low ES/SD and respectable velocities without pressure. Made in the USA and is available just about everywhere. That's a WIN in this day and age! Here are a few loads that "Grand" has proven to be a winner. AS ALWAYS...

Mtnhunter1..... My favorite places to hunt are in the mountains. My favorite way to hunt is solo, just me and the mountain. Was that way when I was young and continues now that I am old.

    Short barrel keeper loads??

What did you see with the 142gr ABLR that has you wanting to change to the standard AB? The moose was shot with a mild 6.5 CM load at 120yds, behind the shoulder with ribs being hit. Absolutely nothing wrong with the standard AB. I've taken many animals with it over the years.

    Short barrel keeper loads??

Nice! Every person is different in the way that they load. Do you feel that these are "warm" keeper loads?

    Short barrel keeper loads??

I have no personal experience with 150gr ABLR on game but I have buddies that are seeing good results up to and including elk. A buddies 82yo mother killed a bull moose last fall with the 142gr ABLR out of a 6.5 CM. Two in the boiler room and two perfectly mushroomed bullets under the off side hide.

    Short barrel keeper loads??

Do you care to share the load data for these loads? I would like to try out several that you have listed!

    Short barrel keeper loads??

I agree on the powder used but I am curious what barrel length vs real world velocity others have seen with their keeper loads. I tried various bullet/powder combos through the CA FFT and found that some proven loads just did not preform well in the shorter barrel. The loads that did not...
