Just for the record...my K5 was NOT a hunting rig. It's the rig I wished I had when I was in high school. I probably would have been a very bad boy if I had that thing in high school.
I've hunted those zones. Rifle and archery but only a few times. I go to other zones. 7, 8, 14, 16 or 17. Most are premium zones nowadays. Hope you were able to get out there.
Had my '73 K5 several years ago. Long since sold it. Had a mildly built 350 with about 5k miles on it, 2 stage flowmaster, 6" lift on 35's with old school polished aluminum 15's. Even had a train horn.
I had a soft top on my old '73 K5 blazer full convertible. I know, it's not quite the same so many the truck guys can chime in. Only time I had water come in from rain was when I was driving over about 30 mph in the rain. It would seep in at the top of the door windows. I believe the bed...
To respond to the questions about spiders and heat/warmth.
Have not had any spiders, now going on 4 years sleeping in back of my Tundra crew max. I build a wood box over my wheel wells, with cubbies on top. I have to sleep diagonally from corner to corner because I have the shorter bed. To...
I switched to Killer Bee Stinger 2. Double blade fixed. I like them because of how accurate they are for my set up. I'd recommend trying as many as you can afford to see which ones work the best (most accurately) from your bow set up.
I made an arrow cutter with a piece of 1" x 4" plank. I made two L shaped pieces to hold the arrow shaft 1" above the plank. The shaft sits on the inside corner of the L pieces, with another piece at the end where the nock touches. It's pre-measured for my arrow length. On the cutting end, I...
With regard to total weight of an arrow, I recently listened to a couple podcasts on Remi Warren's pod cast, Live Wild. It was an interview with a guy who explained (from an engineering-like standpoint) on weight of arrows/broadheads. Really technical. Good listen and good info if you have...
I agree that it could just be a micro adjustment on your rest. Basically, paper tune your bow. Plus, broadheads will plane. One other issue, that I'm not sure was considered is wind. I noticed it more with the G5 M3 solid three blades. The Montecs were affected too. When I shot 20-30, no...
I use to carry Rage mechanicals with a couple G5 Montecs in case there was any brush or grass in the way. The mechanicals flew straighter IMO. The Montecs just pushed through stuff better. I've now switched to fixed two blade. Best of both worlds. I'm running the 100g Stingers. Not the...
I carry an extra in the bottom of my pack. Sometimes, I just put it in a cargo pocket in case I need it quickly. Have only been hunting about six years, but i actually dropped mine as I hiked out from camp. A couple guys camping near me handed it to me when I got back to camp. Thankfully I...
I have not been hunting that long (6 yrs) and have no comment on out of state hunting. But I have traveled out of state for camping. I will say other states deer population seem to be much healthier (size). I believe CA laws and cost make it less desirable. But there seems to be plenty of...
