We'll probably be up there again sooner or later. Becky is living in Vancouver and working for Nike in Portland - her new hubby is a fire fighter/paramedic in Vacouver. My older brother lives in Wenatchee, working for US F&W, and we were thinking about moving there last year. Next time we...
I was up in Vancouver a couple weeks ago for my daughter's wedding. The weather was great and I was happy to miss the heat wave we had down here that week! From Vancouver, we headed south to Seaside in OR for the rest of the week.
How's the deer hunting been in WA for you, Terry?
I have two of the T-3 Lites. I bought them through my brother, who was a gunsmith at a Tikka/Beretta/etc. factory service center shop. I got them below wholesale. I bought a .243 first, and it shot so well and worked so well that I bought one in .300 Win mag the next tiem the deal was...
I usually have one bullet and load for each rifle, and a rifle for one type of hunting. When the .300 mag was my only rifle, I used 180 gr Hornady spitzers or Partitions for everything. My .30-06 was always "just" a deer and antelope rifle and I use the same load - 52 gr of IMR-4064 with a...
I bought a CZ 452 Varmint in .17HMR a couple years ago, but haven't shot it much other than one prairie dog trip where it didn't see a whole lot of use. In getting for another trip this past July, I realized that the stiff new bolt wasn't getting any easier to cycle and then looked at one of...
I'm a novice predator hunter, but I find a decoy and my Fox Pro seem to work. The decoy helps keep them focused there and not on me. Hopefully, some more experienced guys will speak up.
Hodgson recommends H-4895 - and that would have been my guess, too. :) I've used it to make up youth loads in .308.

I have shot a few snakes with shot from .22 LRs through .45 Colt. I have not had it fail to kill the snake pretty dramatically - they often don't even wiggle, which struck me as odd. As kids, we used to shoot rats on the front porch of the cabin of my uncle's mining claim. We'd bait them with...
I finally took a few minutes and called RCBS. They said to send it back with a check for $45 since it was out of warranty. I sent it off before leaving for Vancouver and my daughter's wedding. When I got home, I had a box from RCBS and it was a brand new unit. I have nothing to complain about!
.300 Mag was my only rifle for years, and took a lot of blacktails, blacktail/muley crosses and hogs. I think it is better than a .30-06, though I used one of those for a long time, too. Either one will take all the game you listed, with the .300 having more range and punch. For that matter...
A couple thoughts -
1. Put a Limbsaver recoil pad on that rifle and make it fit him properly at the same time. It if is too short, you can buy a slip-on Limbsaver pad and put it on over the old one. If the gun is too long, cut some off and then install the soft pad.
2. Try "Managed...
