does anyone still hunt with ww1 or ww2 rifles

Years ago when I was just a teenager, a group of us decided to do a drive the last day of deer camp. My uncle was packing a Garand as a driver and I stander with a Marlin. We swapped at his request not wanting to pack that M1 all over the mountain. I emptied the clip at young sow hog that came...

    Remington model 7 accuracy

Mine is a mid 90’s SS 7-08 with the 20in barrel. Even after dropping a Timney in it, it shoots everything from factory to handloads into 1.25-2in groups at 100. It especially hates monos (e-tips/ttsx). I have tried a ton of different loads and nothing will tighten up better than that...

    Triple 7 and a Renegade

I’m currently restoring a TC Renegade in 50 cal. I don’t even have all my components here or assembled but have started putting together supplies. The big question is, can I run triple 7 through it without any issues? I’m sitting on 2 unopened cans of FFG and can’t find any real black powder in...

Gas mileage 3/4 ton gas burners

My stepdad has a 21 2500 Ram, not sure what engine though. Said the other day he was getting about 11-13 most of the time.

    Suppressor Experience

I’m using the Yankee Hill Resonator K. It’s short but adequate in sound reduction. Not too expensive either. I use it for Hunting and the range and on multiple calibers from 5.56-300wsm. It really shines on my AR’s, both 5.56 and 308. My kids love it.

Next hunting rifle- caliber for a suppressed build?

I have a YH Resonator K, it’s not the quietest can out there, but it is small and relatively light. I have shot it on a Ruger American Predator 308 and it was great. Would make a fine hunting rig.

    Ever had pneumonia?

I’ve had it 2 times in the last 3 years. Once from a “respiratory virus” about a month before anyone had Covid stateside and then again from Covid this past July. First time was worse. Don’t be surprised if you get out of breath climbing stairs, walking, or exerting yourself for awhile. It gets...

Montana Elk and Deer- By the Numbers

I have never hunted Montana, nor do I live there. But reading through this makes me scratch my head at some of these management practices, no harvest data? I also wondered a few things. How much private land has been lost to hunting in the last 10 years to development and how much has the...

A North Carolina Fox Squirrel Hunt

I killed a big black and white fox squirrel in Louisiana about 30 years ago. I wish we would have had it mounted! No foxes here but the boys and I put in 5 miles chasing greys in Tn on Monday. Good times.

    Hunt Talker 2023 Fitness Goals

I have my goals that I would like to reach, but I am trying to be realistic. My goals would be to lose 20lbs and be in as good of shape as I was in 2 years ago before: a hernia, a torn rotator cuff, a partially paralyzed left lung, and a nice little bout of covid with pneumonia. So my realistic...

    Hunting with a suppressed rifle?

I understand how one shot can cost you hearing wise, but I generally use my suppressor for the range. My 300wsm is never suppressed in the field. But that being said, I wear those rigid ear plugs around my neck and try my best to throw them on. I do however hunt with an AR 308 suppressed and it...

    Z3 3x9x36 or VX3HD 2.5x8x36

I have the Leupold. I really like it and have put it through it’s paces the last 15 years or so. But I have handled and looked over the Z3 as recently as this week and it is great as well. Hard choice to make, the Leupold being a cheaper option.

    Hunting with a suppressed rifle?

I have a YH Resonator K. I have shot it on my 308 AR’s, my 5.56 AR’s, a tikka 6.5, and my Christensen 300wsm. It being a short can, it doesn’t do a considerable difference on the 300 but on everything else it is superb for its length and weight. Especially on the 308 AR’s. I want to have my 7-08...

    Spatchcock turkey?

I think a 12 lb bird goes about 4 hours +\-. I keep a probe in the breast and pull at 160ish.

    Spatchcock turkey?

Do it all the time with chickens and have twice with smaller turkeys. Wet brine for 12hr, rub down with olive oil, salt/pepper, garlic, parsley and let sit for 12 more hours in the fridge wrapped up in cellophane. 350 on the pellet grill. Never had to turn it over. Prob in the breast. Never did...

Picked up a 6.5 Creedmoor, ammo?

Mine is a Tikka CTR 20in. I have tried several factory loads but the most accurate has been the Barnes 120gr TTSX. All I have tried have been close to MOA or better though. That Hornady 143gr ELD-X load was a close second. I have yet to shoot a critter with it but it is fun to shoot at distance.

Your top 3 picks for a concealed carry?

I carried a G19 for years. I still am fond of it. But, I now carry a Sig P365 and it is much more comfortable to me. I usually carry the 10rd inside the pants and a 12rd if outside the pants but that is just my preference. For general pistol work/training/etc I have grown to prefer the Sig 320X...
